Re:Egoless Mathematics in the AI Era on Monday November 02, 2026 @09:51PM (#50347414)
If you read the whole post you would see the disclaimer that it was written with the help of AI.

So folks are using AI to help them cope about AI. LLMs "stole" pending results is just another cope. Im sure quasi riemann was about to be proved if it wasnt for those pesky AI models. Jeez.

Re:French national assembly votes 0.055€/GB internet tax on Friday October 30, 2026 @03:13PM (#50308811)
France has sky high taxes and yet they run a 5% deficit. Cant cut social programs that are way too generous (in relation to income) so higher taxes it is.

Dont see that working in the long run

There is a giantic industry that does exactly that. Copart, IAR etc
Re:Nietzschian Debugger on Monday October 26, 2026 @02:13PM (#50248341)
Even Anti-AI tech now uses AI. How far we have come!
Re:Brown student maps the hidden global labor powering AI on Monday October 26, 2026 @12:34PM (#50246636)
So lets do away with remote work again. Force people to come back to office
I feel for these people, certainly. There is no point lying to them though. We cant tell them everything is going to be alright just going to be how it used to be. That would be highly deceptive and immoral.
My implication is that being left behind is worse than other choices.
There are always people left behind by tecgnological changes. Better move forward than cling to the past.
I wonder how much higher electricity costs would be without natural gas, fracking and nuclear.
People also have the right to move and that does affect tax liability
Re:The 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement is no longer viable on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @06:59PM (#50188861)
My point is that people want their short term economic needs met (food, shelter, quality of life).

You wont find broad support for policies that save an abstract future 40y away if you cause huge economic hardship on current people.

You can see how quickly support for addressing climate change erroded in the last few once more pressing short term needs of people were not met anymore. Academics and the upper middle class can keep theorizing about how to save the future because they can afford it while the less fortunate will turn to policies that dont hurt their short term prospects.

Bottom line is that ignoring the economic impact is foolish. No lasting political support

Re:The 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement is no longer viable on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @06:38PM (#50188678)
We dont have record low global crop yield. Are you confusing single countries with global output?
Re:The 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement is no longer viable on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @06:06AM (#50178395)
Its the other way around. Climate is going to be least important of your problems if you cant put food on the table.
Re:Wine Ported to OpenBSD on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @05:32AM (#50163480)
Even LLMs understood my joke. Its probably time for you to make use of modern tools :)
Re:Wine Ported to OpenBSD on Monday October 19, 2026 @07:19PM (#50159311)
Following that line of reasoning a turned off pc is the farthest ahead. Its extremly secure after all and has no apps ;)
Re:Wine Ported to OpenBSD on Monday October 19, 2026 @11:51AM (#50153915)
Thats exactly what I mean. I dont care about Posix or the whining about "anti-features". The BSD stuff is a clear subset that doesnt get the job done.

Posix is more an art form documenting the far gone past rather than a practical tool

Re:Wine Ported to OpenBSD on Monday October 19, 2026 @11:49AM (#50153898)
Copyright will adapt.

Also my personal opinion about copyright _in the FOSS domain_ is that I simply dont care. Copyleft as the GNU folks like to call it is just using the copyright laws to achieves certain free software objectives. If that doesnt work anymore there will be another fix

Re:Wine Ported to OpenBSD on Monday October 19, 2026 @11:44AM (#50153828)
I mean OpenBSD's utils cant even match GNU's coreutils so I think they have bigger problems
Re:Wine Ported to OpenBSD on Monday October 19, 2026 @11:17AM (#50153515)
OpenBSD will probably fall even further behind
Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday October 16, 2026 @06:51PM (#50125833)
So just generic capitalism critique?
Re:More on Anthropic's Scion ripping off Mononoke on Thursday October 15, 2026 @08:05PM (#50112029)
The theory did not do anything revolutionary. The products did.
If it makes them more money
There will always be people that write code with pen and paper. Its going to be an art form though rather than something productive.
Re:The Future of Mathematics on Monday October 05, 2026 @06:02PM (#49971485)
That will also happen with regulation. It's just gonna be slightly slower process

My HN frontpage is filled with anti-AI rants

Indeed no one forces you to look up the solution.
Re:What do Visa and Mastercard do? An intro to card networks on Thursday September 10, 2026 @08:47AM (#49642875)
Yeah because they commit tax fraud. I wont help businesses commit fraud.
Re:bzip3 on Monday September 07, 2026 @02:12PM (#49601200)
The author of bzip3 probably doesnt like pushover licenses so made user rights stronger

Re:Credit Card Rewards Became a $9.2B Wealth Transfer on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @09:33AM (#49433767)
Just pay with a credit card, it's the optimal way by far (float, flexibility, rewards). No need to overthink it.
