Satoshi's whitepaper is titled "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System". Cash.
Tax authorities squashed that around 2014 when they started classifying it as a capital asset rather than cash. Nobody wants to track their cost basis and write a tax return line item for every coffee that they purchase throughout the year. Enthusiasts like us will use it anyway - either jumping through the tax hoops, or ignoring them - but most people in functional economies will be good citizens and use the money that their government tells them to.
It's still been a huge success as a store of value, akin to gold but without the problems of physicality. Nothing goes exactly as planned - it's silly to call it dead because it failed to completely live up to its original intent. But it is also ahistorical to claim that it was never intended to be cash.
Love that it's fully self-serve and not "please call sales", and will give this another shot with new board designs when I still have total flexibility in part selection. But for existing projects I'm probably just going to re-order from Shenzhen.

I searched "tor 990", found the same [1] you did with stale data, and knew from past experience I could find the latest on GuideStar. 990s are really useful when doing due diligence on non-profits before making donations. In an ideal world, they'd be easy to find directly on irs.gov, but, alas.
Yes we do; it's listed on Tor's IRS Form 990. $306,225 in 2025.

Yes, it was great. Until Google turned evil, and the goodwill that we had given to them on the basis of all of these cool products was turned back against us. The lesson I learned from this time was that you don't give a company leverage over you just because you like what they are doing today. You should also consider where they are headed in the future.
Why did Google turn evil? Do you think Cloudflare is immune from these same incentives? Is giving a bunch of free services away to everyone sustainable, or will they be forced to tighten the screws in the future, and if so, what will it look like when they do?
What's the problem with this alternative, exactly? Some crimes already have no statute of limitations, and this hasn't caused the sky to fall.
Critical examination is the judiciary's job, not the police's. Jordan v. City of New London established that police departments can and do deny employment to prospective officers who possess excessive cognitive ability.
