From the same wiki:
> Despite the increase in awareness, use of the term to describe oneself has not greatly increased over time.[4] As of 2018, use of the term Latinx was limited nearly exclusively to the United States.[29] Manuel Vargas writes that people from Latin America ordinarily would not think of themselves using the term unless they reside in the United States.[29]
Maybe it didn't technically originate in privileged English speakers but it certainly seems to have arisen in popularity among them.
As someone who lives in a 99% hispanic region in the US, I've never heard anyone use this term to identify themselves. We're right on the border and that sort of thing seems to mainly happen in larger cities north of here.
The true elephant in the room is that this guy gave us freaking JavaScript!
I don't think that is necessarily true. Adding friction to how easy it is to use those apps has helped me.
I'm sure being buddies helps, but people are excited about it, and it is exciting being part of something people are excited about.
The original commentor mentioned the donations were ideologically motivated. I just don't think that is the case. I think people are excited about something that doesn't really have any ideological attachments to it and is just focusing on making something cool. My anecdotal observation of the internet in general and day to day life tells me people are burnt out from that.
What signs point to these donations being strictly ideologically motivated? It seems more like it is about Omarchy's reach. It has clout right now. All donors stand to benefit from it by supporting it. Digital ocean especially. For an OS that aims to empower users with agents, they're going to need to host their projects somewhere. Gnome has no clout. It's boring and stable. I say this as someone who loves GNOME and uses it.
Ah, that makes sense. I noticed recently that even all the new fast food restaurants in town have been built with much smaller dining rooms.
I know nothing about this business? Why are they abruptly closing everything?
Something like this will probably be done on android years before iOS, if ever.
One hope I have for the Ternus era is that Apple opens up more. I love Apple's hardware, I just have how closed off the software is and can't have the fun with it that I want to have.
Agreed. I like Joe Rogan but hate Spotify. For that time period where Rogan was a Spotify exclusive, I didn't listen to his podcast at all.

It's obvious you're speaking from a place of emotion and not from knowledge or logic.
Even if that were true the answer wouldn't be to not train them more. The answer would be to give them more proper training.

Yes, I'm sure they would agree but I'm pointing out that the department/agency would agree as well. I don't think that departments were actively seeking out aggressive people, but rather seeking out people who could handle getting aggressive when a situation calls for it. Someone who can't get aggressive is likewise a liability.
I do see what you are saying regarding de-escalation. It seems like one of those things that is easy to mistakenly dismiss as "easy" and focus on something like firearms or tactics training.
It sounds like that guy may have been exaggerating a bit. Aggressive people are a liability. Especially in law enforcement. Not just to the department but to fellow officers. They stir shit up and it is dangerous and annoying.
Cops do need more training, like dramatically more training. I think the screening process is trying to solve a really difficult problem. You don't know if/how someone will be corrupted when they have a little bit of power. Or how they will change over time.
Read: not all markets and manufacturers will have the same respect for their customers.
I tested a couple of emails I have with custom domains on Proton Mail and I got the following result:
{
"email": "{redacted}",
"status": "unknown",
"action": "review",
"flagged": false,
"signals": [
"verification_inconclusive"
],
"suggestion": null
}
This is my biggest fear for the law enforcement officers. They're becoming overdependent on these technology tools and forgetting to do actual police work. I say this as a former police officer myself.
Yeah, I realize that. Type 2 seems more intriguing to me though. I wonder what sort of impact it would have on a solar system to harness most of the star's energy. Is there a sort of outer space ecosystem that it would disrupt?
For anyone out there who might know:
To achieve a Type II civilization, is a Dyson Swarm currently the best theoretical approach or are there others that are more promising?
So many people sleep on Brave search. I agree, it's like Google from 08. It just searches for what you ask for. You can disable AI overviews. It's quick. Has a nice UI. It's free lol
What I've seen many people do is install the Google Camera app and turn off network permissions for the application so it cannot send any data to Google.
Respectfully, that's a bit of a stretch. Impaired human memory and increased risk taking are coefficients that would impact far more industries than software. I think the notion is that
software, in particular, seems buggier. IF these side effects of repeated COVID infection have anything to do with software bugs, I would think it's contribution would be dramatically smaller than say LLM assisted coding, rapid merging of code, lack of human review.
Just a couple of examples:
- Linux kernel ai commits (https://lunduke.substack.com/p/ai-submissions-to-linux-hits-...)
- Omarchy 4 30k lines of ai generated code (https://x.com/dhh/status/2057907663967543618)
The irony is that it is sometimes irrational/illogical to only consider rationality and logic.
Have you ever had an experience where, by all calculations, you should be happy with the outcome but for whatever reason you're not?
In some ways, that is the state of the internet today. Everything is optimized based on analytics, but so many of use are unhappy with how things are.
A quote from the novel
The Body Of This Death by Ross McCullough that I think is very insightful in this context:
> It was always obvious to me that rationality must be more than merely material. It is still obvious: the self as software is somehow both too immaterial (as if it could be transferred from hardware to hardware) and not immaterial enough (as if it required some hardware for its every operation).
I would think that in order for a legal defense to be in defense of a crime, one would have to be charged with a crime, no?
In the current state of affairs this can be seen as funds being collected for a civil defense maybe.
100% justified. We can Monday night quarterback it all day, but ultimately it comes down to having to make split second decisions based on training and experience. Many officers would have jumped out of the way, many would have taken the shot. There is no one size fits all.
For anyone with a Radar/Sonarr/Jellyfin setup - do yourself a favor and set up Jellyseerr too. It's a request system for other to request library additions. Install moonfin on your firetv/androidtv and downloads can be initiated straight from your TV!
