Something like this would be useful in Istanbul Taking into account public transportation and then minimizing elevation changes for the walking portion. That is one very hilly city.
> 2. The council moved to disallow discussion of flock cameras

Not sure why they would do that. Our city council gives people three minutes to talk about what they want. Not sure why this city council wouldn't do that.

Re:Amazon now hides all customer reviews on products on Friday August 28, 2026 @01:40PM (#49481959)
This happened to me starting yesterday. Customer support was no help. Making me seriously consider exploring alternatives to Amazon.

This is both on the app and using the website on my computer.

There are also elevators in cruise ships. People get on and off at almost all the floors.
You can use this webpage on your phone to set an "atomic" clock.

https://timestation.pages.dev/

I use it when the daylight saving time switch occurs as not all of my clocks will get the time every night. But this isn't so useful if you never can receive the signal.

I would eat the food at the store and then throw the trash away in the store's trash cans.

For things I didn't eat at the store I carried a small plastic bag to store my trash and when I got to my lodging I would throw it away. Also once you go inside the gates of a subway/train station there often seemed to be trash cans available.

Re:HomeLab #1: MikroTik as a Home Router on Monday July 20, 2026 @12:57AM (#48974503)
I think they are saying if you use VyOs on Proxmox it gives you something equivalent to JunOs. I have no idea if that is true or not though.

Related they let you download the entire documentation in an LLM friendly format.

https://manual.mikrotik.com/llms-full.txt

Their front page documentation specifically mentions it: https://manual.mikrotik.com/docs/introduction#machine-readab...

Re:The death and rebirth of my home server on Sunday July 19, 2026 @11:14AM (#48968902)
Personally I would get a used Dell Optiplex / Lenovo ThinkCentre / HP EliteDesk. Either the "mini" / "micro" if you really want small. I am a fan of the SFF (Small Form Factor) size and the Dell Optiplex models. In particular the 70XX versions that offer Intel AMT / vPro for remote management.

I run a Proxmox server on my Dell Optiplex SFF 7070. With the SFF size you can add two low-profile PCIe cards, if desired. In my case I added a 10Gbit NIC.

The reason I would go with a used Dell / Lenovo / HP is that these tend to be well-built machines that run for years and years 24/7 in offices and proven to work well.

I use Cloudflare for DNS and it is free to use the API.

Re:Anyone else get a vague GitHub shakedown notice? on Friday July 10, 2026 @02:04PM (#48863193)
> No, I didn't, because I quit GitHub when they started demanding mandatory SMS 2FA

They haven't demanded that of me. I have 2FA with a Yubikey and a TOTP app.

I don't ever recall giving them my phone number.

Re:TLS certificates for internal services done right on Friday July 10, 2026 @01:51PM (#48863066)
So? I don't see any issue.

I always use FQDNs for everything.

Re:TLS certificates for internal services done right on Thursday July 09, 2026 @01:49PM (#48849828)
I do the same thing. I'm not worried about them seeing my FQDNs.

I use the form of hostname.int.example.com for everything inside my home network. None of which is accessible to the outside world. I use LetsEncrypt with DNS validation to get the certificates.

> Most ordinary working people can't afford the cost of installing a system. Even a portable one.

I just watched a video where a person bought a £200 portable unit. He was using it in the UK and said he spent about £0.89 / day. And I'm assuming they won't use it for that many days a year.

Seems affordable enough for "most ordinary working people"

Re:Kagi Small Web on Tuesday March 17, 2026 @10:09AM (#47412918)
I've been using it for over 2 years now. I'm quite happy with it. I like that I don't see adds and my searches aren't being used to target ads against me.
Re:Zendesk Email Spam on Wednesday February 04, 2026 @04:02PM (#46891723)
Same. I've gotten over 30 I think.
Re:GitHub Actions Have "Major Outage" on Monday February 02, 2026 @03:09PM (#46860731)
Thanks. When I tried to use the https://www.githubstatus.com/ link it wouldn't let me submit. Now I will remember to use the incident link in the future. I hadn't noticed that before.

Re:How I block all online ads on Tuesday December 09, 2025 @01:40AM (#46201933)
I started paying $7.99/month for Google Play Music in June of 2013. And it is now YouTube Premium and still $7.99/month.
Have you done this? How do you know this is true? Are there reports of trusted 3rd parties who have verified this?
The binary blob issue has been brought up since back in 2020. And since then very little real progress has happened from what I can tell.

I am not willing to use the software due to that issue. It just seems suspicious.

Re:Why I have to buy doughnuts with cash on Thursday October 16, 2025 @11:48PM (#45613163)
I use cash so I don't feel pressured to tip when buying donuts
Re:About the BLOBs in Ventoy on Wednesday August 06, 2025 @02:50PM (#44816046)
I'll believe it when it happens. The maintainer hasn't done much regarding this for over 5 years. There are issues raised about this back in 2020 and not much has changed. It just seems suspicious to me. But I might be paranoid.

I'm not willing to trust it.

I just turned on reader mode in Firefox and then refreshed the page and got the article. I'm surprised how often it works. It often doesn't but sometimes it does.

Re:Ubiquiti Launches UniFi OS Server for Self-Hosting on Friday August 01, 2025 @01:03AM (#44753159)
They just released v3.0.0 of the EdgeRouter software three days ago.

https://community.ui.com/releases/EdgeRouter-3-0-0/33ee3852-...

But yeah they haven't released any new hardware in quite a long time. But nice to see they are still doing development work on the software.

Current Honda hybrids are like that. The only time the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) is directly connected to the drive train is when the speed gets to above around 60MPH. The rest of the time the ICE is used to power a generator which then sends power to the electric motor and/or the battery pack.

From the article: William Nelson Morgan, 69, was sentenced to 32 months in prison, having previously admitted violent disorder and carrying a cosh during a riot on County Road in Liverpool on Saturday.

Sounds like he engaged in violence and was carrying a weapon.

Re:Tell HN: 1.1.1.1 Appears to Be Down on Tuesday July 15, 2025 @02:03AM (#44568271)
You weren't alone. I was actually using 1.1.1.2 and then quickly added 8.8.8.8 once I figured out the issue.
