The solution is Treasury Inflation Protected Securities (TIPS). You do have to pay taxes on the inflation adjustment (OID income). As long as the interest (after taxes) is higher than taxes on inflation adjustment you're good.

"First run" doesn't exist for JavaScript libs used only in web apps. So for that entire class of packages this change makes them safe.
Re:Judge Strikes Down Trump's $100K H-1B Visa Fee on Monday June 08, 2026 @04:02PM (#48451034)
$100K is a ridiculous amount and would have lead to US losing its edge over other countries. $25K annual fee would be more reasonable, if the foreign worker is also given a competitive salary. That amount is large enough to give US citizens preference, while at the same time enabling tech companies to hire highly skilled workers. And this has to be legislated by congress, the President has no authority to impose this tax.

So basically communism. Communism is a political and economic ideology advocating the collective ownership of the means of production (e.g., factories, farms, and resources) and wealth is distributed based on individual need.

You can't be a good designer if you aren't thinking about how to get your users to love your product so much that they keep coming back. There are good and bad ways to keep users coming back. The good way is to simply make the product very useful. The bad way is to make the user psychologically dependent on your product in some way.
Are you addicted to your job? You keep going back every single work day. Does that mean you are addicted? Just because you keep repeating an action doesn't mean you're addicted. It just means it is solving a problem for you (such as providing you with a salary to buy food and pay rent) and does it well.
"Addiction" is a bad word. It implies the user is not in control of themselves.

Anyone who makes products want users of our product to keep coming back as though they are addicted, but not actually addicted.

Even without flicker it is very distracting. Why do people think this is a good idea?
An executive order is not law. Why should any company submit their models for review?
This is such a scam.

SpaceX used its massive IPO and listing fees (and the prestige of being the largest IPO ever) as leverage. Index providers and exchanges saw financial incentives: listing fees, trading volume, data sales, and long-term revenue from asset managers. Reuters reported that SpaceX advisers contacted major index providers (including Nasdaq) to discuss early index entry, and that SpaceX was leaning toward listing on Nasdaq only if it got early inclusion in the Nasdaq 100.

The rules built to protect passive investors were waived:

- S&P 500’s 12-month seasoning and 4-quarter GAAP profitability requirement → waived

- Nasdaq’s seasoning window (90 trading days) → cut to 15

- FTSE Russell’s seasoning window → cut to 5 days

Meanwhile, Danish pension fund excludes SpaceX citing governance and valuation (Musk holds approximately 42.5% of the equity, but commands roughly 83-85% of total voting control): https://www.reuters.com/legal/transactional/danish-pension-f...

Don't let one company's failure tarnish the entire field.
> Tesla does precision mapping and annotation of routes...which yes, all self-driving cars rely on this

Musk has long promised that Tesla's don't need this. Tesla's approach is to be able to drive anywhere, as opposed to only in precisely mapped regions. So this is a major fail.

TL;DR - Former Tesla data labelers say FSD relies on laborious mapping for hazards. Crash data analysis shows Tesla exaggerates FSD's safety via flawed methodology.
Right, if Meta had good governance Zuck wouldn't have been allowed to invest so much in Metaverse.
Re:Is "colorectal cancer" rising in "young people"? on Tuesday May 26, 2026 @02:06PM (#48283414)
Which country are you in? Did you have insurance? What kind of complications? Have you recovered completely?
Not to mention iOS 7.

And the iPhone 5c which had toy-like colors and was reminiscent of Fisher-Price products. The 5c case with holes made it even worse.

Personally I am hesitant to do colonoscopy after a relative had a botched procedure. Just this month two celebrities revealed botched colonoscopies. I hope they figure out ways to make this procedure safer.

Most people seem to think the 1.8B slush fund Trump wants is for rewarding Jan 6 defendants who participated in the insurrection.

I think it is for something worse: it is for rewarding those who participate in the next insurrection. If you look at how dictators such as Kim Jong Un operate, a wannabe dictator needs two things. (1) A compliant military that is willing to punish people who oppose the dictator, and (2) a slush fund for rewarding people who support the dictator.

For (1): The gathering of generals and top military leaders on September 30, 2025 was to make it clear to them what is expected of them (be willing to attack democrat-controlled cities when called to, and quit if they aren't willing to do that). For (2): that's what the 1.8B slush fund is for.

Guess what? America's homebuilding is powered by immigrant workers.

Re:JWT is a scam and your app doesn't need it on Saturday May 23, 2026 @02:47PM (#48250155)
The example requires immediate action. If the hacker beats you he can lock you out by taking over the account, it doesn't matter if it is JWT or some other tech.

> and immediately realize

That's a narrow scenario isn't it, if you have to "immediately" realize?

Re:JWT is a scam and your app doesn't need it on Saturday May 23, 2026 @02:20PM (#48249890)
JWT can be short-lived, for example 1 hour. Then on each request if the token is nearing expiration you decide whether to extend it or not, and if so return a replacement JWT with extended expiration. With a short-lived JWT you don't need to invalidate the JWT.

> just put the JWT in an httpOnly cookie

You can have two cookies, one that is signed and httpOnly, and another that is unsigned and readable by JavaScript. Both contain the same information. So JavaScript can read the information in the second cookie, but since it is unsigned, exfiltrating the cookie doesn't compromise security.
