Re:Citroen revives the 2CV for an electric age on Monday October 12, 2026 @02:44PM (#50060913)
It seems they are listening to potential buyers' wishes. Since the first evs appeared in the market, everyone wanted technologically upgraded classic models.
Re:The Italian Town That Built Its Own Sun on Saturday December 14, 2024 @02:37AM (#42415352)
It's a small hamlet founded by iron miners, they were familiar with darkness. Foundries and blacksmiths also worked well in the shadow i think.

Here is a quick history of the village https://www.comune.borgomezzavalle.vb.it/en-us/vivere-il-com...

Want to make a statement? Beat the 911 on the Nordschleife.
More like the poor masking algorithm interpreted the legs as background and blurred them.
Re:Exploding Head Syndrome on Friday November 24, 2023 @05:12AM (#38402327)
Is this phenomenon similar to brain zaps? I've experienced something similar but without the pain described on the wiki page about antidepressant discontinuation syndrome. Also I've never taken antidepressants, but those zaps occured always after taking too much chemicals at parties.
Re:Apple Gets 36% of Google Revenue in Search Deal, Expert Says on Tuesday November 14, 2023 @03:23AM (#38260517)
In my day to day life Google as a search engine has completely failed. What once was a place to find informations is now a jungle full of traps. DDG is my default, but GPT on Bing is the future. The alternatives are there, even doing better for some tasks.
Re:YouTube's Ad Blocker Crackdown Spurs Record Uninstalls on Friday November 03, 2023 @11:14AM (#38130031)
Fair point.

A whole article about adblocking and no mention of gorhill's uBO? DNS level filtering? Come on Wired...
Re:Where and how can I get a citizenship if I'm stateless? on Tuesday October 24, 2023 @08:07AM (#37997947)
Without any further details it's difficult to offer advice. For example...from which country to which country? EU is vast and quite heterogeneous. What brought you from being an adopted child to being an adult without proper IDs? Please share more details if you can.

Stasi was active until 1990.

Germany recent past taught its citizens to value their privacy.

Invidious for the browser, newpipe, grayjay on mobile.
Re:As I get older, I just don't care about new technology on Saturday August 26, 2023 @09:46AM (#37272868)
I had the same feeling reading the title, I guess you are right about projecting. Just this morning I realized my old thinkpad is about to throw the towel, thinking about going to find a decent replacement in the current market depresses me.

> Why can't we just click on the "man", and then click on a spot to drop it?

That's exactly how it works.

Click the man, roads with street view data are highlighted, click a road.

People on Twitch are paying young women to sit in hot tubs for hours, write usernames on their exposed skin.

Caffeine, nicotine, thc and alcohol.

Re:How to lose your work using Undo Copy in Windows on Saturday May 13, 2023 @08:52AM (#35927895)
Exactly what I was thinking. Copy = context to clipboard, paste = clipboard to context.

Undo copy should only remove the copied thing from the clipboard.

Re:Tell HN: Best Use for old iPads (that I found) on Sunday January 15, 2023 @05:08PM (#34394103)
I've used Alfred some time ago on an old android phone to catch who was throwing cigarette butts in my backyard. The app worked flawlessly, the relations with my neighbors not so much.
Re:Ask HN: Are you boycotting Qatar World Cup? on Monday November 14, 2022 @12:07PM (#33597215)
Sure, my team even failed to qualify to make things easier.

More seriously, I think I'll watch it nonetheless. FIFA and its subsidiaries are corrupted to the bone, but what can I do? I love football, and they'll run the game for a long time.

Re:Ask HN: Companies giving access to personal data on public URLs on Wednesday September 28, 2022 @12:08PM (#33009595)
Thank you for the thorough explanation. Makes sense.

Why? Even the document you linked recommends using them...

> Unfortunately, the Twitter web app shuts me down when I scroll too far into a page.

The twitter mobile experience is awful, but I found that if you tap signin in the infamous undismissable modal and then you go back with the browser it will not nag you for a while.

Then there's Nitter if you are after an alternative frontend.

I understand what you mean.

Something's changed, but the syntax and the svelte way of doing reactive components is the same (but I only used version 3, don't know how they did in the previous versions).

SvelteKit on the other hand is still very much a work in progress. I'm using it for personal projects and it's great, but I'm surely waiting until v1.0 to do anything serious with it.

Svelte is used in production by several high profile companies. NYT in primis, since its creator Rich Harris worked there, but also Spotify, Ikea, Reuters, Brave...we can debate if it's not as mature as other frameworks, but definitely is not experimental.
Nextdns on every device + ublock origin with chromium on linux and vivaldi on android. All working fine.
Re:Show HN: I built a url builder library for JavaScript on Sunday September 04, 2022 @02:17PM (#32715993)
I've been using the standard interface[0] to handle URLs, is this better?

Re:Toyota’s Hydrogen-Powered Big Rig on Sunday September 04, 2022 @07:51AM (#32712059)
JCB is another big player in the hydrogen space. For what I understand they are adapting their old diesel ICEs to work on hydrogen, whilst Toyota are using newly developed electric engines powered by hydrogen cells. Two very different solutions to the same problem.
