News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

gozzoo

We mostly saw the guy typing. The clicking sound is very distracting. Using vim didn't do him any favour. I would be much more impressed if we could get more insight into to the thinking and problem solving process. Also smoking is not commonly accepted productivity booster. He could have watched porn instead.
Re:Release of Polars 2.0 on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @09:10AM (#49977904)
I'm not following the trends closely, but has Polars become a full replacement for Pandas? Are there use cases where one is better suited than the other?
Re:SvelteKit 3 Is Here on Friday October 02, 2026 @06:00AM (#49931745)
I'm a little out of touch with these technologies (sveltekit, nextjs), but is there any advantage to using the same technology for both frontend and backend development beyond the rise of full-stack developers?

What about using React/Svelte for the frontend and a separate backend in Node.js or another stack? Is there any real advantage to having a single monolithic codebase for everything?

what is the easyest way to use the chinese models and which harness does work with them well?
Re:"They had no concept of a duty of care to their users." on Sunday September 27, 2026 @11:29AM (#49867526)

But actually there is! They didn't start from scratch. They took another very successfull and beloved project with the promise "to make it better". There is some promise here and the duty not to make it worse.

These things would be considered magic even 4 years ago!

The article doesn't mention docker at all. I don't understand why containers are not viable solution for headless browsers.
Re:Ask HN: What are you working on? (May 2026) on Monday May 11, 2026 @04:15AM (#48092355)
I've had the same idea for year. When google released their Fitbit Air few days ago I the first thing I tought was - can it be used as a sensor for weightlifitng and do they have API for that.
Re:OpenAI's WebRTC Problem on Saturday May 09, 2026 @03:40AM (#48072823)
I didn't understand - why is WebRTC good for Google Meet and not good for all other conferencing apps?
Re:Zed is 1.0 on Wednesday April 29, 2026 @11:45AM (#47950024)
I'm using the latest free/unregistered version (4200) and I haven't experienced any limitiation so far
Re:An update on recent Claude Code quality reports on Friday April 24, 2026 @02:59PM (#47894425)
It is worse than that. People have been complaining for weeks and Anthropic’s message was basically “you are holding it wrong”. On top of that this misconfiguration somehow makes CC consume much more tokens. How believable is all that?
some are spending 100/day or even 1000/day. they must really be mad :)
as soon they do that all kind of companies will start abusing it, for example the sound of all smart phone notification will use exactly that frequency
Re:Talk like caveman on Sunday April 05, 2026 @12:30PM (#47651049)
Same here. The text is pretty smooth and there is nothing that stands out to sustain my attention, at least that's my interpretation
Re:Talk like caveman on Sunday April 05, 2026 @06:26AM (#47647972)
I think this could be very useful not when we talk to the agent, but when the agents talk back to us. Usually, they generate so much text that it becomes impossible to follow through. If we receive short, focused messages, the interaction will be much more efficient. This should be true for all conversational agents, not only coding agents.
Re:What makes Intel Optane stand out (2023) on Sunday March 15, 2026 @01:10PM (#47389404)
This concept was very popular back in the days when computers used to boot from HDD, but now it doesn't make much sense. I wouldn't notice If my laptop boots for 5 sec instead of 10.
Re:What makes Intel Optane stand out (2023) on Sunday March 15, 2026 @12:19PM (#47388870)
Maybe we can also mention the HP Memristor here.
Re:Big Data on the Cheapest MacBook on Thursday March 12, 2026 @10:48AM (#47351358)
How do you use M1 Air as iOS build server. Is 8G sufficient for only doing iOS builds? Do you connect to it remotely?

Couls you please describe your dev process.

Re:Show HN: The Mog Programming Language on Monday March 09, 2026 @03:19PM (#47314057)
How is Mog different than Mojo?
Re:Ask HN: How to Be Alone? on Sunday March 08, 2026 @05:37PM (#47301786)
This is a very lame excuse. You can do 100 different things without compromising your shoulder. Try cardio. Or just wight lifting with very light weights. Or group classes.
Re:Apple introduces the new MacBook Air with M5 on Tuesday March 03, 2026 @11:00AM (#47234350)
I have Lenovo laptop with quite mediocre touchpad. I got used to use gestures instead of clicking and it works great for me.
Re:Don't become an engineering manager on Tuesday March 03, 2026 @10:37AM (#47233986)
I don't get this argument: don't do it, you have better otptions, but it is good for me because i enjoy it.
Re:Apple introduces the new MacBook Air with M5 on Tuesday March 03, 2026 @10:13AM (#47233632)
It has always been like this. Apple's signature for their laptops is their aluminium body and people seem to like it.

Good for you :)
Re:Julia: Performance Tips on Friday February 27, 2026 @07:02AM (#47179558)
I have tried Julia few times and each time this is what stops me. I don't understand why they decided to make indexes R-like oposed to "all other languages"-like. My brain just stops working when i need to recalculate indexes and each time I'm wrong.

Some people may not realize it, but when it comes to programming languages, ergonomics matter—a lot.

I’ll never get why people hype up Zed. Sublime Text already has all the same perks—and beats Zed at the very things it claims to improve. Sure, it might not have every advanced feature, but for “vibe coders” who don’t need a full IDE and just want to skim or tweak generated code, Sublime Text is the better choice.
