Still running a saas I built on Coldfusion/Lucee with a Vue frontend that I started in 2011 that supports myself and 2 employees.

X, FB, TikTok, YouTube, etc.
The doomscrolling algorithms are 100% weaponized against us to keep us scrolling endlessly.

It’s not just kids at risk, I also struggle with it as a millennial. I love skimming HN, comments, blogs but I almost never read a full article. I wanted to read the Bible recently, and it was such a challenge that instead I generated an app to doomscroll it called ScrollMyBible.com (plugging because it’s 100% free/ad free and has actually been helping me read more) - maybe this idea could be used for other applications where we redirect this tendency that is weaponized against us towards something constructive

Not bad considering this is a niche specialty product and cutting edge. The price will come down if the demand and market grow. Assuming raw hardware costs stop rising

There’s a lot of assumption in that statement. I was never homeschooled but I hated public school so much that I decided to homeschool all 4 of my kids. They love the freedom and they are honestly over socialized

I love stories like this. I used Claude to decompile an old Windows program and port it to Linux, it was extremely challenging, I had a lot of success but ended up just rewriting it as a new app.

Until Android is crippled it will continue to take resources away from Linux Phone development and companies that will launch phones for it

Hopefully 2026 or 2027 will be the year of the Linux Phone

Same boat, with 4 kids between church and co-op we barely have enough time for the amount of friends we have. Finding a good church might be a challenge for people but it’s worth the time and research, we just moved to be closer to a good one.

I’m a father of 4 and I’m overloaded with community, have you tried finding a good church? That’s where people have found community for thousands of years.

Re:Ask HN: How can we solve the loneliness epidemic?
on Thursday January 15, 2026 @08:57PM (#46642109)
I grew up in the 90s chronically online, isolated, abused, and socially awkward. Then I started working out, losing weight, trying to get better socially, then left atheism and became a Christian at 17, quit drugs and porn, met my wife, we now have 4 kids, love our church, and I can’t even imagine what loneliness feels like now. With 4 kids and a future with grandkids, pile in all our friends from church, hard to imagine a future where I’ll ever feel that emptiness and loneliness again. There’s a lot of hard work and pain I didn’t mention but it’s all been worth it

Re:Why Most Vaccines Don't Contain Mercury Anymore
on Thursday June 26, 2025 @12:10PM (#44388750)
To rebuild public trust in vaccines, we should require an annually updated git-style log that documents every ingredient in each vaccine, clearly showing what has changed year to year and allowing full transparency back to the very beginning. This should be accessible to the patient before accepting the vaccine. Additionally, combined vaccine cocktails should be discontinued, each vaccine ought to be offered individually so that people can make informed decisions about each one separately.

As someone that uses Vault, this news sucks. What cloud storage alternatives are there that have a similar pin access secure files feature?
