Ai will yield a higher demand for mathematicians, we need more people to understand the math being solved. We also need more people inventing math problems.

People who want to solve problems themselves should go on to invent them without posting them on the internet until they're solved.

it's a great tool for molecular elucidations. there's still a big gray area as to the interpretation of some results in the context of terms such as "memory" or various feelings, but the optogenetics framework is undoubtedly the most impressive interface to the brain ever created
Re:Sol Loves to Cheat on Thursday August 20, 2026 @08:49AM (#49373924)
this is interesting because when you're asking it to do research for you, this behavior is highly desirable

i think it's a product of trying to do too many things and the model is coming to a kind of halting problem in determining which behavior is appropriate for any given task

new github workflow acquired
sounds like a feature, not a bug

it might imply using weaker models to attempt the problem first is a good supplementary prompt to a more advanced model trying to do the same

it's like a pre-vc funding round for projects
i agree with you but i'd go even further

time and gravity are the same thing, the history of understanding physics is basically of the same nature, understanding that two things are actually one thing, which is more like philosophy but with physical confirmation

i honestly don't care what other people do, there's no way my children will be sitting in a desk for 8 hours a day instead of learning how to live their life and survive

school was a massive waste of potential

Show HN: Stillis – An open-ended anonymous polling platform for anything

I was sitting in an auditorium where the speaker was taking questions that were submitted through an app, it got me thinking that there's got to be a better way for an audience to communicate with the speakers than individual submissions.Even in online spaces, while there tends to be only a limited number of speakers, I would imagine a lot of people listening in tend to have shared concerns...

this is an excellent point, new ground isn't necessarily novel, it's a rearrangement of existing pieces
Re:Where Are the Vibecoded Photoshops? on Monday May 18, 2026 @08:04AM (#48178518)
why would anyone vibecode photoshop when AI already makes images
Re:Claude for Small Business on Thursday May 14, 2026 @08:10AM (#48134279)

Re:Marc Andreessen is wrong about introspection on Friday April 03, 2026 @12:29PM (#47628735)
and what do you think his punishment should be?
absolutely the right move, use books for learning. i would still use computers for building ie coding, but absolutely not entertainment, not "learning to use microsoft word"
all these governments that supposedly prided themselves on their freedoms and fair processes are somehow becoming prisons to their own citizens
is this not the subprime mortgage problem all over again?
it's interesting that meta is at the forefront of any legal battles for AI when they're not at the forefront of the technological race
Re:System76 on Age Verification Laws on Friday March 06, 2026 @12:26PM (#47278098)
This is a very sensible statement. The legislators are out of control, and are severely unfamiliar with anything related to technology.

This is 100% about spying and information harvesting from users who deserve privacy, and would be better off managing their own children without the help of the government.

some might view it as an impossible goal, but if they enabled humor they would become more popular
