Re:Let Me Ch... on Monday November 02, 2026 @06:21PM (#50345581)
Oh for sure, anyone with half a brain could tell how things were going to go. Mine was a somewhat tongue in cheek comment referring to a common refrain all the AI boosters used to say before reality set in.
Re:Let Me Ch... on Monday November 02, 2026 @02:21PM (#50342170)
AI was supposed to give us more time to enjoy our meat suits.
It is a thought experiment, not a real scenario
Re:How to set up SPF, DKIM, and DMARC for your sending domain on Thursday October 01, 2026 @04:53PM (#49926957)
Thanks for the heads up, looks like this is a case of AI;DR (maybe I should get some bumper stickers printed).
Re:LinkedIn Larpmaxxing on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @02:04PM (#49912294)
I never play then because I have better things to do with my time. Like closing the LinkedIn tab.
Re:Windows 11½ on Monday September 28, 2026 @04:51PM (#49884162)
I get updates for 10 without having signed into an account (I refuse to).
Re:Hacking OpenAI on Friday September 18, 2026 @03:35AM (#49751242)
No, it is sandboxed by Bubblewrap on Linux and Seatbelt on Mac
Re:Your car is selling your data on Sunday September 13, 2026 @01:31PM (#49686381)
The 240 is built like a brick (both in terms of strength and looks). My dad had one when I was much younger, then he sold it for a 740. A few months after the sales, police knocked on his door and asked him a lot of questions. It turned out the purchaser had used the car in a ram-raid on a shop.
Re:Your car is selling your data on Sunday September 13, 2026 @01:26PM (#49686318)
I would be very surprised if it was that simple - systems in modern cars are so interlinked that I would expect that pulling a fuse would cause something else to break, resulting in dash lights or broken functionality.
It's not even the AI prose which is the problem (although I detest it too); it's the lack of respect for the reader. I've started employing 'AI;DR' - if someone wants my (limited) time then they should earn it by writing themselves.
Re:How Railroad Crossings Work (2024) on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @02:45PM (#49540603)
There's two level crossings alone in my small UK town (~150k people)
Could not agree more on the political side of things. I don't buy Dyson products on principle.
Anyone who gives an LLM unfettered access to their ssh keys/agent socket deserves what they get IMO. I sandbox Claude with my own bubblewrap-based script which denies it access to anything I deem unnecessary.
Quite, it's the volume water and the speed of release which matter, nothing else.
Re:The Amazon Tax on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @02:57PM (#49350824)
Some of the prices are crazy too. I wanted 4 tenting legs for my keyboard, found some on Etsy for £100 total (no joke). 4 of the exact same item from AliExpress cost me about £4 including shipping.
Re:Why does Opus 5 feel worse to work with? on Friday August 14, 2026 @01:52PM (#49302243)
Agreed, the whole tool is vibe-coded out the wazoo and I do not trust it in the slightest. I run a bubblewrap script which vastly limits what Claude has access to. Sometimes this makes things difficult but the trade-off is worth it to me.
It really depends on what you're looking for, there's a lot of great stuff in my local area, but there's also a lot of shit too
Re:Western Sahara on Wednesday August 05, 2026 @01:52PM (#49186385)
I had never heard of Western Sahara, nor did I know about Morocco's involvement even though I've visited Morocco several times. So I found this very interesting and I learnt something new. Seems to fit here quite well to me.
Re:The next chapter of our AI momentum on Wednesday August 05, 2026 @01:45PM (#49186296)
Single data point; no, I don't. I preferred the pre-AI world. It makes me sad that we'll never see it again.
Re:Critical CVE issued for hallucinated SQLite vulnerability on Tuesday August 04, 2026 @04:04AM (#49165625)
Thanks! That's definitely getting added to my vocabulary.
Re:Atomarine: Nuclear Data Centers at Sea on Thursday July 30, 2026 @01:52PM (#49113339)
> Nuclear submarines often operate without any escort.

Correct. That's where the GPs comment regarding stealth comes into play.

Re:Park by Robot at London Gatwick Airport on Sunday July 26, 2026 @02:36PM (#49060986)
Same, I also live very close to Gatwick, the train is about 4 stops for me and puts me right at the terminal. Zero reason to drive.
Which is exactly why alll my cameras live in their own VLAN with no internet access, regardless of how trustworthy the company may be. Better safe than sorry and all that.
I highly doubt that the extra traffic is really the problem, it's merely the catalyst which caused this post to be written.
I think you're missing the wood for the trees. He's still insanely wealthy.
Oh for sure, but you can do a lot of things without ever touching the advanced coding section. It's definitely worth being cautious though - as you say you can definitely brick your car with it if you're just YOLOing your way through it. It does back up the module configuration prior to writing the update though so you do have a safety net.
Safer settings are exposed with decent labels, but you can also use the advanced mode which is much more low-level, akin to what you described.
Bimmercode lets you do coding (it's very powerful and you can easily mess up your car so you have to be very careful with it), and Bimmerlink lets you read fault codes etc.
