FYI, Musical.ly was a Chinese firm headquartered in Shanghai
Because the author did not really study the so called social credit system, instead they just quote everything from wikipedia without double checking the facts.

wiki link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_Credit_System.

That wiki try to associate every thing related to credit in China to the social credit system, which is terribly wrong.

For example, playing loud music may get you blacklisted by the beijing subway company, not the national credit system.

Violating traffic rules only affects two citie's own credit system, again not the national.

"Making reservations at restaurants and not showing up" is from a news hub site.

chongqing planed to have 500k camers in 2011. The auther believes that number grows 20% YOY. So it's 2.6 million now.

I have no words.

What about an official package management tool first
could be. that's my first guess.
I am a fan of the Mayday(Air Crash Investigation) tv series, you can always find eyewitnesses report smoke and fire in any air cash despite the real cause.
23M times, not 23M peole, the title is misleading
It's not about referring Xi Jinping as Winnie the Pooh, it's about puting Xi Jinping's name on 'a poster with an ancient style Taoist seal' to curse him.

I do not believe this is related to free speech because the font used in seal are rarely use today, most people can not recognize them.

Nobody is shaming the girl. The title is very misleading.

Re:The Social Credit System in China [video] on Friday December 28, 2018 @09:56PM (#18781474)
There is a system called "The" Social Credit System"(社会信用体系). But the word 'social' is not about social network, it is about socialism. Lots of PRC's departments and laws are named with social but none of the have anything to do with the social network.

I think it should be translated as 'The National Credit System'

Re:The World, Built by China on Monday November 26, 2018 @06:48AM (#18532634)
NYTimes display the power output as a bubble chart on PC and bar chart on mobile.

I was shocked how misleading the bubble chart could be, The biggest dam is 3x larger than the smallest, but the it looks like only 1.5x larger on the bubble chart.

Re:China, India grapple with the consequences too many men on Tuesday April 24, 2018 @02:06AM (#16910263)
Same in China. Though I do not believe this is something "already happening". Female infanticide is nothing new in China and India, it started centuries ago, and was worse in old times.
Re:China, India grapple with the consequences too many men on Tuesday April 24, 2018 @01:16AM (#16910033)
At least in China, it has nothing to do with sonograms or abortions. Chinese doctors are not allowed to tell parents the gender strictly. Female babies are killed after they are born.

Hi Jeremy, thank you so much for your great effort, it helps me a lot.

Would you release a new version for the part2 course this year? I haven't started the part2 yet, but I heard that the part2 course is using the new Pytorch based library already.

Re:IoT Sensors Monitor a 1,400-Kilometer Canal in China on Wednesday January 17, 2018 @03:44AM (#16166435)
1. The IoT network is built after the canal. 2. The South-to-North Water Project is not a single entirely new canal. It consists of many small canals and dams that connect existing canals and nature rivers.
Re:Lee Sedol Beats AlphaGo in Game 4 on Sunday March 13, 2016 @11:28AM (#11277994)
Actually, it's a tradition that both Players should replay the game after the match, discuss about good moves, bad moves and what they were thinking during the match.

I felt so sorry for Lee Sedol when I saw him lose the second match, facing an empty chair ,and he could only ask one of his friend to review the game.
