yup, great point. the models are NOT that good! they’re not good enough to simply tell you which 100 companies to run and then run them. it’s actually all of us outside of OpenAI who have that critical potential to discover what the heck these tokens are good for anyway. and maybe they want to canabalize some of our businesses ultimately à la the Apple model. but yea the model just isn’t good enough. there still so much critical energy and action and discovery happening in all our meat brains.
Re:Fable 5.1 World Modeling on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @06:10PM (#49543276)
“Fable 5.1 World Modeling” is an incredibly misleading title! This has very little to do with Fable and using an unexpected sense of “world model”

always curious what the license allows with these Meta research drops, seems all over the place… can this be used commercially? (specifically inference) it’s creative commons and some parts apache?
Journalism needs a WYSIWYG editor for stylized content -- content that is more visually diverse/interesting than the linear text+image+embed format, but not SO so custom/new as to truly require a developer to build it.
Re:How to Avoid Idea Averaging on Monday January 04, 2016 @10:01PM (#10840751)
Averaging different economists' predictions makes sense. They each provide an x-y curve. Those curves average together in a mathematical way.

Product design ideas don't average together in this way. If one person wants to design a knife and another wants to design a spoon, and you average them together, you get a spoon with a sharp blade on one side, or maybe the blade is on the handle of the spoon, but either way, bad idea!! Or best case maybe you end up with a swiss army knife, in which case it's harder to clean, etc. Adding the knife feature sacrifices the simplicity of the spoon, which is extremely valuable.

Who actually votes stuff onto the front page of Hacker News?

Just wondering who actually spends the time to go through the (presumably) lower quality "New" tab of Hacker News, finds the good stuff, and upvotes it onto the front page. Seems like a waste of time if "New" has a lot of crap in it. Or are there already pretty high quality links over there?

Re:Why Use Make on Sunday February 24, 2013 @07:09PM (#5276584)
More than convincing me to use Make for dataviz, this really begs the question, "Is there a good dataflow manager for data visualization?" Something that can use URLs as dependencies, simpler syntax than Make, perhaps has a node/pipe dataflow GUI... Cascading.org comes to mind, but it is too complicated and Hadoop-oriented for this kind of dataviz.
