VC's and cryptocurrency feel as if they have now finished their convergence to be nothing more than the latest sophisticated and legal forms of ponzi schemes where those at the bottom of the pyramid are holding the bag. While not knocking the usefulness of this article and accompanying tool, it just shows how far we've strayed from putting the highlight and focus on builders and visionaries that these funds must have to latch on to.
While VC served its purpose well back in the heydays of FAANG and modern groundbreaking companies, in today's area it has become nothing more than a legal ponzi scheme designed to have series D and IPO stock purchasers holding the bag after artificially growing companies to unsustainable rates. Companies that grow slower and have a chance to become more sustainable will benefit even the most capitalist of societies, instead of hundreds of billions dumped into ongoing pump and dump cycles, which (as the article) inevitably leads to a crash.
Having developed only one small iOS app with Objective-C code, I was mostly turned off by its overall verbosity in the context of NS prefixes. Hence, I ask the question on behalf myself and others who did not appreciate the language and did not give it a proper chance... what did I miss and what are its top appeals?
Nevertheless, Rest In Peace to a pioneer.

This is a great idea to avoid substantial platform usage fees in exchange for the ever reducing value proposition that Kickstarter or other centralized crowdfunding platforms provide.
I ended up buying it since I'm still looking for a good HN reader out there that does all of: indenting comment threads, gives you the choice of browsing directly to the story without going through comments, and displaying key story information beside the story, such as the number of votes.
Edit: Thanks for the correction, meant to say fiat currencies tend to 'inflate', not deflate.
1. Your compensation is directly correlated to the company you're dealing with, knowledge of market rates, and negotiation skills.
2. If your employers do in fact don't give you a raise due to your stammer and keep you 'locked up', they are unimaginably terrible mentors and leaders and you need to discard this toxin from your life as soon as you can.
3. Enroll in stammer-specific therapy. The Camperdown speech shaping program is one of the more recent ones for long lasting effects.
4. Read literature about organizational behaviour and power; your quality of code and unit test coverage has very little to do with winning any battles.
To make things fair, we really wish this blanket policy at Yahoo was put in effect, axed all remote arrangements, and reevaluate their remote arrangements on a case-by-case basis and bring fairness back without individually discriminating.
The reports of 'Yahoo is all against telecommuting' do not tell the entire story and are taking advantage of sensationalist headlining. Telecommuting works when everyone has a certain level of discipline, as it's far too easy to take advantage of and end up being complacent. Places do exist that essentially issue paychecks just because you're an employee in the system. I wouldn't be surprised to know far too many Miltons from Office Space are out there.
* Return of the dumb terminal: The home desktop will die out in favor of tablets connected to a keyboard, mouse, and monitor, and your ISP will double as your Desktop/Amazon AWS provider.
* If above scenario happens, NVIDIA/ATI will no longer produce consumer level hardware
* Death of the thick client gaming console as cloud computing and faster networks will be able to stream Crysis 3 at 72FPSin 1080p. The Steambox-like devices would only be periodically upgraded with a faster ethernet connection.
* Conventional phone lines will go 'dark' as everything will be TCP/IP based, with redundant Wi-Max like networks
* SPAM will be finally completely eradicated
* Car2Go will transform into a legally approved self-driving car rental service
* You will still need a several years of experience to be a decent developer, regardless of how much languages evolve
* The Roomba will dust as well as vacuum
* New York Times will go bankrupt and Tesla will become a huge force to reckon with, as electric cars become commonplace, their technology patented and licensed out to major car manufacturers
UPDATE: You still need a paid license to use it legally. This is a service Adobe is providing to make life easier for existing licensed users of CS2 to enable continued usage. "While this might be interpreted as Adobe giving away software for free, we did it to help our customers" ( http://blogs.adobe.com/conversations/2013/01/update-on-cs2-a...)
Proximity calculations, leading vehicle frequency, trailing vehicle average speed, etc., using existing technology already in place that can be leveraged and innovated on to accurately determine culprits.
This 'cancer' is simply a data layer; if you use proper design patterns and seperate your layers correctly, you can surgically remove this tumour and replace it with another ORM.
I bought two 'aesthetic enough' keypad code locks from Home Depot and it' been serving me well since. It doesn't require my phone or launching an app from my phone (think bags of groceries in both hands and you forgot to preunlock), doesn't require Wi-Fi, and I can program temporary codes for Airbnb, etc. within seconds. The only draw back is lacking the option to increase 30 second autolock interval.
Add a keypad, make it as rugged as existing locks, place it in the Home Depot lock aisle beside the other 'uncool' locks and you have a disruptive winner.

* By the time you're good enough to be a tech lead, you may want to venture into consulting/contracting and earn more
* You may be in a position of trading development time for managerial duties, which you may or may not enjoy
* Depending on the politics, lead dev may be just below the proverbial corporate ladder glass ceiling
* A lead dev may ultimately spend more hours working to solve a particularly challenging technical problem, which may rest on your shoulders
* You may want to work somewhere else as an 'architect'. This is a very subjective job description, but could propel you faster if your aim is to climb the HR corporate ladder
* If the development environment is lacking now for you as a senior dev, it will lack just as equally as a lead dev
Have you considered using .net for your startup? There is the obvious drawback of having to license the Microsoft stack, but ASP MVC is now mature enough to being a solid backend platform for a startup, and your odds at finding a talented .net developer in Alberta are magnitudes greater than the platforms hyped in Silicon Valley. The BizSpark program also gives you a 3 year free run at MS licensing.
As an experienced contractor in the Calgary area, I'd go as far as saying the Oil & Gas has created a large surplus of .net developers especially in the last 3 years, which explains the booming IT headhunting sector here, and hiring capable developers seems to take only a handful of days from start to finish.
1) Having your own company is more risky as opposed to a Permanent employee role in the government's eyes, hence more opportunities to pay less taxes
2) Companies are far more likely to work towards creating employment than individuals working for companies, benefiting the economy
3) Dividend income is taxed at a reduced bracket to stimulate investment, regardless whether you're investing in your own company or getting dividends from a large public corporation by being a shareholder
10 years of filing corporate taxes, having every accountant follow this practice, and an official audit with no complaints shows the Canadian Revenue Agency has no issues with this system.
