Why? They work just fine.
This is true, can confirm
What could possibly go wrong
Re:Ask HN: Good resources to become financially literate on Thursday January 26, 2023 @11:58AM (#34534448)
I found the book called “Manage your money like a f*cking adult” by Sam Beckbessinger to be a really good one.
Re:Ask HN: Why arent developers interested in secure coding? on Saturday January 14, 2023 @06:43AM (#34379495)
The question should be: why aren’t project managers and product owners making security implementation and review part of the sprints as a priority item?
Re:Ask HN: What $500-2500 product improved your 2022 on Friday January 06, 2023 @11:49PM (#34285319)
A bit off topic, but I bought a Burmese kitten for around $600 and now I have a best mate with me all day and apparently I’m going to live longer now xD

Pretty awesome breed for someone looking for a house cat. Lots of meme worthy quirks too

Re:Ask HN: What sub $200 product improved your 2022 on Friday January 06, 2023 @11:45PM (#34285299)
I went with the Caldwell e-max
Re:Ask HN: What sub $200 product improved your 2022 on Friday January 06, 2023 @11:44PM (#34285295)
I went with the caldwell e-max set because it was discounted. Works a charm and is very comfortable wearing for long periods of time
Re:Ask HN: What sub $200 product improved your 2022 on Friday January 06, 2023 @07:47AM (#34274070)
For me:

- Philips OneBlade (use it weekly and have not needed to charge in 6 months) $35

- Large desk pad $20

- Shooting hearing protection with white noise (drowns out pretty much all other noise while coding) $100

Stripe support is horrific, good luck mate!
Re:Ask HN: What is your new year's resolution? on Saturday December 31, 2022 @01:02AM (#34194053)
I have only one this year: to own my own time.
Re:Ask HN: Who else is working/on call over Christmas? on Sunday December 25, 2022 @12:50AM (#34124720)
I’m on call for a payment provider and have dealt with emergencies basically since the very beginning
Re:Is anyone else getting cold/sick much more often these days? on Wednesday December 14, 2022 @12:10PM (#33986489)
Yes 100%.

I have not been sick in about 5 years and then I caught Covid when the first wave hit.

Since then, I’ve been sick at least once a month while my wife and kids have experienced the same thing (just less extreme)

Re:Ask HN: How do you deploy your side-projects? on Tuesday December 13, 2022 @12:17PM (#33972016)
For me, this topic falls along the same lines as distro ping pong.

I’ve tried many, but have ended up with Cloud Run. It’s been great and costs next to nothing.

Since you run within a Google Cloud Project, you get all the Google tools to use if and when needed too.

GitHub actions usually handle my deployments etc.

Re:Ask HN: Experienced devs, what language would you learn today? on Wednesday November 30, 2022 @12:27PM (#33804130)
I’ve never made more money before than I do currently with Go, Python and Kotlin.

I guess it depends on what you are trying to achieve.

In general, it would be more beneficial to learn supporting topics like building distributed systems, database internals etc than purely just another language.

So much here resonates with me.
Look after yourself, too.
Re:Ask HN: An advice that changed your life? on Saturday October 29, 2022 @07:28AM (#33383084)
Before spending the last money I had on a coding book, the cashier could see my hesitation and said "don't worry, investing in yourself is never a waste of money".

It had a profound impact on me.

Re:Anybody else going to quit Twitter? on Saturday October 29, 2022 @01:01AM (#33381131)
No, why?

If you were going to leave, you should have left in protest when they started censoring people, promoting politics and refusing to stop fake media.

Setting up printers.
Get it running.

I find the only way for me is to actually run the code locally, play around with it until I understand the data flow.

Re:Ask HN: What technologies have made your life worse? on Monday July 25, 2022 @02:27PM (#32228767)
Jira, without a doubt.

Everything that is is even remotely a negative connotation involves Jira for me.

Could you elaborate a bit more about everything moving to Discord? Is this a thing generally or just a side effects of being in a team that uses discord for work?
It's a fine balance between accuracy and rewarding your highest ad spenders.
I was wondering about this same thing this morning from the perspective of NFT creators.

If I was a professional designer, I'd see something like DALL-E as an awesome tool to help come up with concepts upfront in discovery sessions etc.

Re:Ask HN: What Are You Learning? on Friday July 22, 2022 @11:58AM (#32193422)
Learning stress and anxiety coping mechanisms and Adobe InDesign to produce nicer videos for an upcoming YouTube channel.
