I for one am pumped about this. I hate the styling of notes, but love every other aspect of it.

Thank you for the advice.

Thank you for this suggestion. Yes, I can and it is what I have been doing. Just looking for advice before I go too far down a particular route.

Ask HN: How do you deal with religious references at work?

I work on a team where one of the members often references their religions writings and teachings - how do you deal with that on a team mostly made up of atheists and agnostics? I respect their ability to believe what they want, but I don't agree with the teachings themself and have no interest in reading their writings.

Re:Ask HN: CS grad who barely knows any CS on Tuesday June 14, 2022 @10:07AM (#31739721)
CS is like learning martial arts. You'll never learn it all and you will never stop improving as long as you stay with it.
Re:Ask HN: Why can't I learn anymore? on Friday May 06, 2022 @08:11AM (#31284218)
Rails does 95% of this out of the box. Companies need to understand how much their poor technology decisions cost them...
Re:BYOT: Bring your own team for new-grads on Monday April 25, 2022 @08:42AM (#31153612)
This makes so much sense. As I look back on the last 20 years of my career the things that set one place above another is the team and relationships.

I spend most of my time at a new job trying to recruit my former colleagues over. Team is everything. Once you have a group of people who work well together, the problem doesn't matter.

I saw someone saying they'd fight over tabs/spaces - nope. That's what two strangers do. A team has already settled on spaces.

If there are any employers reading my comment, hit me up if you want a solid team.

I did this same thing a while back. My tree is still growing today. I highly recommend doing this the next time you eat a fresh mango.
Re:Ask HN: Who doesn’t want to go back to the office? on Thursday April 29, 2021 @10:25AM (#26981568)
I've found a new level of self worth not being told when I have to be in a seat and when I'm allowed to leave it.

And get more karma. I don't want to go back.
I would imagine this would complicate contracts with clients who are not interested in a 3rd party knowing their entire population.

This guy is in for a rude awakening when he finds out backend is no different.

Do you have samples of your work? I'm sure someone on here would be willing to pay you more than $15/hr.
Re:Make your 404s into 302s on Friday May 29, 2020 @09:05AM (#23349445)
This is neat but hosting costs could be a burden.
This is exactly what happened to me. I went from being a model "A-player" to "He was a C-player who needed to go". Don't think for 1 second the business will ever compromise itself for you.

#3 is really important. Do not shy away from sharing your stories with your potential new employer. It helps them better understand who you are. If they care about you and the investment they are making in you, then they will want to hire someone who is strong enough to stand up for something they believe.

100% agree. I wrote to them and their reply was this: "We don't have any plans to support turning the new WYSIWYG editor off."

Completely agree.
I'm pretty sure Ender's Game has this in it. It was how one of the characters snuck info out.

I'll give an unpopular opinion here: Grow up. Get a job where you have a boss. Be responsible to someone besides yourself.

Investor Management Services | Charlotte, NC | Onsite | https://www.quietstreamfinancial.com/investor-management-ser...

What: Join a team of Ruby and JS developers that are changing the way Commercial Real-estate is managed.

Who: Strong JS developers

When: Now!

Where: Charlotte NC

Why: If 9 out of 10 start ups fail, this is the 1 that wont.

To begin: [email protected]

I've worked with 5 developers that have come out of the bootcamps. Only 1 of them was a "good hire". He exhibited the same behavior your guy did: commitment.
In my experience they're operating like for-profit colleges. They charge so much because they can. People want to believe that they can sign up for a course and leave a new person. The reality is that you have to put in the hard work to be good enough to hold your own at development shop. So those that are hirable after doing a bootcamp are mostly likely the ones that would have been successful developers if they had just stayed at home and studied. Those that are less than desirable hires make up the majority of the students. Bootcamps are cash cows.
