Re:Intel stock collapse worsens as $3.5T chip rout spreads on Monday November 02, 2026 @11:18PM (#50348006)
How would you differentiate between currency influence and power influence?

OP means that some WiFi antennae are soldered to the motherboard and cannot be easily removed.

When building my PC, I got a PCI WiFi card but it turns out there was also a direct WiFi network interface built into the motherboard somehow

I think linking to TikTok videos saying “vibes? vibes!” in some of the links was a bit below the belt, but understand it takes restraint to maintain NPOV

Re:Official Claude Code extension compromise on Friday October 30, 2026 @08:43AM (#50303116)
Kevin Beaumont says the extension for “VSCode and Cursor” was compromised: https://cyberplace.social/@GossiTheDog/117528831681803563
what were you expecting to hear from the model at that point?

I think you got the conversation into a state where any answer would be equally likely to feel profound to you.

Really cool work!

Do note that a custom host runtime is still responsible for loading firmware, booting the CPU to the starting point, and compiling/loading the program to run. While the CPU is running, the host runtime makes sure that only the CPU layers run by manually skipping Qwen’s own layers.

I wish the author would be more forthcoming about these limitations. The central claim about “no external runtime” or “not a plugin” feels a little dishonest to me since this doesn’t work without some pretty invasive changes to the inference driver.

If we lived in this world, wouldn’t we expect more games to have a lower initial price / F2P but higher hourly streaming cost?

Who said anything about Apple? The OP who posted about wipr mentioned using a laptop.
Re:Using LLM for confidence scoring is a bad idea on Thursday October 22, 2026 @07:21AM (#50193858)
Yes, you can even do this in unpatched llama.cpp!

It's thought to work "better" but score calibration is still a problem.

The bug you posted was patched and fixed 6 years ago, and none of the other bugs in the audit showcase that issue. Are you sure these are the right links?

My guess (pure speculation) is that Wipr sets the fingerprint to a well-known value for privacy / anonymization reasons, and Meta is indeed using that to suggest related accounts.
Re:Shipping JPEG XL in Chrome on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @07:51AM (#49991457)
That isn’t my experience. I tried compressing conference proceedings into thumbnails with tiny file size and for this purpose I found that JPEGXL is far better than AVIF

for those not aware of the reference, "The Machine Stops" was a 1909 novelette by E. M. Forster. It was very forward thinking, and so full of ideas!

Re:EV Sales Are Booming in Europe with Gasoline at $10 a Gallon on Monday September 28, 2026 @08:29AM (#49876941)
should there be? bikes use a fraction of the energy from EVs, aren’t their owners benefitting from lower cost-of-ownership either way?

Silly question: how do we know that the decrypted message is correct?

Isn’t it feasible that a given ciphertext could mean any number of different things under different settings? If so, we don’t know whether this setting happens to match a plausible plaintext or whether this really was the plaintext the sender intended to send.

Re:An update on how we confirm your age group on Discord on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @11:05PM (#49811160)
Most people won’t bother to check that, and all underage users will have that checked. This method still has perfect recall and very high precision.

Re:Divide by Depth for Instant 3D on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @09:35AM (#49801066)
Rick Szeliaki’s “Computer vision algorithms and applications” has a lot of great motivation for homogeneous coordinates in the first chapter and appendix. For example, in 2D, the cross product between two points in homogeneous coordinates is the line joining them, and the cross product between two lines in homogeneous coordinates is their point of intersection.
Re:The Inference Hardware Revolution of 2026 on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @09:57PM (#49721268)
hang on, isn't this the standard way to implement IEEE 754 floating-point multiply since forever?

normalize the two numbers A and B to have the same exponent, add the mantissa, then convert back to IEEE 754?
