For what it’s worth, I’ve found using Perplexity Pro (with Claude 3 Opus) to exceed the accuracy of asking a non-expert armed with Google Search and a few minutes of time.

My apologies for the style I had ChatGPT write this haha

Ask HN: Best language model for PDF search?

I apologize for the misunderstanding. Here's the body of the Ask HN question:---I've been exploring various solutions for conducting local search and inferencing based on PDFs. While inferencing answers to questions is a desirable feature, my primary focus lies in the vector or embedding search capabilities. Currently, I'm interested in a solution that can effectively handle approximately 10-20...

Re:Llama2.c: inference llama 2 in one file of pure C on Sunday July 23, 2023 @05:38PM (#36840132)
Seems like this could be suitable for masochists like me who wish to run language models on retro computers :)
sama, please don't delete your blog. I appreciate reading gems like this one: https://blog.samaltman.com/productivity
"It's open source, just fork it."
Does this have potential for running on an SBC? Mine only has 2GB of RAM and I'm interested in running a toy language model on it.

Re:I Feel for the NetBSD Community on Saturday January 07, 2023 @01:39AM (#34285793)
I asked ChatGPT about why I should use NetBSD instead of Linux, and for me the reasons of performance and portability don't hold up because Linux is more performant and more compatible with my hardware.

I can see why some might appreciate the simplicity of the base system and the design of pkgsrc but the former seems to be more in line with OpenBSD than NetBSD and its legacy cruft.

I'll take a look and see if the same effects can be achieved with Affinity Photo

Ask HN: Possible to add 35mm film aesthetic to a digital photo?

I've been messing around with a 35mm camera. I'm a big fan of the aesthetic but I find myself balking a bit at the cost of a roll of film.Is there any faithful way of adding the film look to a photo taken on my phone? Maybe using a generative adversarial network like StyleGAN? I haven't been pleased with the filters I've seen so far.

Any experience with this? I would suspect that it would work with GTK2, but not for current GTK3/4.
Old Intel Mac Minis are great for this purpose. Easily found on eBay, and consume less power than most Intel desktops of the same vintage.
