he talks about groups of human beings as if they were animals. if you are ok with that, fine. but that’s what he is doing

the speed at which depletion happened was probably not the same
Re:Hormuz Minesweeper – Are you tired of winning? on Monday March 23, 2026 @07:42AM (#47488098)
lets see... what country in the region actually has nuclear weapons? Could it be the same country that is conducting genocide in Gaza, displacing hundreds of thousands in Lebanon, and allowing settlers to do pogroms in the west bank?

history? people with moral integrity?
Re:Hormuz Minesweeper – Are you tired of winning? on Monday March 23, 2026 @07:38AM (#47488070)
you keep your own moral integrity
Re:Hormuz Minesweeper – Are you tired of winning? on Monday March 23, 2026 @07:37AM (#47488061)
Have you heard what people like Ben-Gvir say?
Re:Hormuz Minesweeper – Are you tired of winning? on Sunday March 22, 2026 @08:25AM (#47476798)
I think that if you start an unjustified war of agression against a country and you kill 150 children, you should be held responsible
I think reducing what LLMs do to « typing » is misleading. If it was just typing, you could simply use speech-to-text. But LLMs do far more than that, they shape the code itself. And I think we lose something when we delegate that work to LLMs
Re:I was right about ATProto key management on Sunday January 25, 2026 @09:10PM (#46761018)
ActivityPub supports a less compelling user experience for many people: you only have a partial view of the network (you won’t see all the replies to the posts of people you follow on other servers), no global search, etc
Re:A Social Filesystem on Monday January 19, 2026 @07:30AM (#46678251)
In the ATProto architecture, this function is handled by the AppView, which monitors the full network and produces the corresponding aggregates.

Israel an the US are a single entity when it comes to security matters in the middle east. It was already the de facto regional power.
Re:Are We Decentralized Yet? on Sunday August 31, 2025 @07:26AM (#45082349)
absolutely. it’s even in the design paper, when they discuss the AppView the authors say it’s “less decentralized than alternatives” and yet you can’t say that without bsky fans getting mad.
Re:Are We Decentralized Yet? on Sunday August 31, 2025 @07:20AM (#45082320)
there are already independent relays running. a full relay (which is open source software) costs around 30 USD per month to operate
Re:Denmark to raise retirement age to 70 on Sunday May 25, 2025 @09:04PM (#44092888)
When you state that "European social safety nets are pretty damn generous" it seems to imply that someone else, rather than the Europeans themselves, is being generous and footing the bill.
“ Meanwhile you could transfer $25k in crypto to Dubai”

“In reality, I don't see much appetite for using someone else's distributed key-value JSON schema design. The value add isn't clear enough.”

the value is that you’d start with an already existing full network of users

The “fail whale” was a thing years before Elon’s acquisition.

Do you believe that language should remain unchanged, or that it should evolve only for reasons beyond conscious intention?
Re: on Friday January 03, 2025 @06:54PM (#42590804)
As an immigrant in Canada, I have observed a relentless increase in anti-immigration discourse. While there are valid critiques of current immigration policies, the conversation too often carries a racist undertone.
Its not a war, its punishment against a whole population because of the actions of a group.
Re:How to Self-Host All of Bluesky on Friday November 08, 2024 @01:23PM (#42089200)
It could be a thing. Not for individual tinkerers but for companies. The fact that today, with already 14 million users, is still possible for an individual to host it is amazing.
Re:How to Self-Host All of Bluesky on Friday November 08, 2024 @01:21PM (#42089178)
Uh, it is not required. You can run only a PDS if you want to self host your data and everything will work.

But it is indeed very cool that you can actually host a relay if you want (for fun, learning, or whatever reason)

Re:Dropbox announces 20% global workforce reduction on Wednesday October 30, 2024 @11:20AM (#41995950)
The thing is, high executives have become a self-perpetuating class entrenched in corporate boards, this is the reason CEOs comoensation keeps skyrocketing, not supply and demand. And this entrenchment obviously also stifles accountability.
Re:Dropbox announces 20% global workforce reduction on Wednesday October 30, 2024 @10:16AM (#41995127)
Good lord, the number of people defending the poor poor CEO is staggering. Do people have any idea of how much CEOs pay has skyrocketed in the last decades in the US?
Re:I Am Tired of AI on Friday September 27, 2024 @08:03AM (#41669381)
I think it is a totally different threat. Excluding adversarial behavior, humans usually produce information with a quality level that is homogeneous (from homogeneously sloppy to homogeneously rigurous).

AI otoh can produce texts that are quite accurate globally with some totally random hallucinations here and there. It makes it quite harder to identify
