A bit like owning stocks on the stock market then I would guess. Which begs the question of whether to take a higher paying job with no options and invest the difference.
With the title "The far-reaching effects of air conditioning" I didn't immediately think "Yup ... that's handy: frozen peas" even though the technology underlying them is the same.
"cold" is quite broad though. That would cover refrigeration/ freezing which would be a much bigger impact than air con.
Middle of the ocean might be more practical if the goal is to avoid any jurisdiction
" who'd rather want to " -> " who could "
All so the AI robots can get some thermal energy.
I didn't change - I was always a middle manager, sleep obsessed couch potato.
Sounds like for the OP the coffee isn't the product, but rather a space to work and think.
Having to choose a coffee show, see if they have wifi, charging, not to noisy etc. is an inconvenience if you want to just get started on something quickly. You might only have an hour before a meeting if you are travelling for example.

Don't think. Test.
People on HN might be cheapskates but your target might be willing to whip out their wallet sooner.
That is interesting. Thanks.
So it takes some effort to make it taste that bad. Keep up the good work SB!
Perhaps that explains why their coffee tastes awful.

I've seen riders with cleats who can stop without putting their feet down. This is even without a fixed gear.
It says 4.95 a month so I am guess this is some kind of SaaS?
I did this once with a msi to exe converter idea (was getting a lot of traffic on a free page I set up). So I set up a form and after 2 months I got a $20 sale. So I decided to refund him and not to build it.
Here is an angle on this:
The goal is to stick to something until completion.
Phsychologically this is easier if you are enjoying it.
So choose a project and a tech stack you can really get into.
Scratch your own itch so that even if no one else uses it or buys it are least you can.
Look at the non-financial upsides, so that if you make zero or little money you can still feel proud: For example - learning new skills that might help you get a raise, learning marketing so that your next project is more likely to be successful, etc.
A word of warning - once you have spent some time on a side project the shine will wear off and it will feel like a job - and you have to find ways to keep yourself motivated when you could literally just go an watch TV instead on your time off.
That'll hurt the movie industry a lot more than file sharing. Expect some lobbying on both sides.
"One of the only" ... sneaky!
Measuring the hiring process is a different kettle of fish, to measuring on the job.
I think being overly measured in a job makes a job about maximizing the metrics at any cost. And a lot of people will cave into that pressure and take shortcuts in areas that are not measured in order to maximise their measured performance.
For example over estimating, less testing, less documentation if the metrics is about meeting estimates.
Whereas without the metrics they might just do what they think is best given their experience in any given situation.
There is never going to be zero metrics, as managers need to know where the money and time is being spent, but I prefer things on the lighter side.
