It is following the Fundamental theorem of software engineering, another level of indirection.

Did this project cost you anything to complete?
Re:Ask HN: How do you manage your prompts in ChatGPT? on Thursday September 12, 2024 @12:51AM (#41517706)
Would be nice if you ask the same question twice, it would look in previous "stored questions" or not for your previous answer if you need to reuse an old answer. I found it tedious to look for an old answer I need in old conversations.

Do you get better as a programmer by solving leetcode problems or coding on things that interests you?

How can I not have heard of this before?! Sounds like the plot for a thriller movie.

Hahaha, really gotta fix that website asap lol. Thanks for the input though!
Re:Ask HN: What non-AI products are you working on? on Wednesday March 27, 2024 @06:38PM (#39845451)
I've been working on https://growfa.st.

A lot of times, websites suggest I sign up for a 5-10% discount/promo code. That might lead to a sale and they get one more user to their email list.

GrowFast takes that a step furtver by offering a widget that provides different tasks for the user to complete in order to receive the promo code. The tasks range between user generated content leading to more organic traffic, user reviews and even testimonials (haven't decided fully on the tasks just yet).

I think this is a cool concept and I hope companies think likewise.

Re:Ask HN: In the 90s, did programmers job-hop frequently? on Wednesday March 06, 2024 @06:04PM (#39622902)
The problem with this these days is that, even if you want to do something new, companies will not hire you because you lack work experience of what skills you want to obtain.

I heard that back in the days, if you knew coding you were hired. Today you have to know 10000 things.

Re:Why I use Firefox on Friday March 01, 2024 @06:58AM (#39560939)
The only issue that I have with Firefox is that some UI libraries don't work very well in the browser. Been trying to use svelte-typewriter (https://www.npmjs.com/package/svelte-typewriter) but it seems to only work in Chrome for instance.

But it seems to be fixed now with polyfills https://todo.sr.ht/~henriquehbr/svelte-typewriter/13

Which of those options are best? Heard that Lemon is new to the game but Paddle have been in the game for the long run. Never heard of fastspring.
Svelte is still there, and Kit is there for fullstack applications.
Re:Show HN: Mojo CSS - The Atomic CSS Framework on Wednesday February 07, 2024 @03:49AM (#39286104)
How is this different from TailwindCSS and how does Mojo CSS tackle Dynamic class names?
Hahaha that's so fucking relatable. I saw an ad that was hiring for company X and would prefer candidates that actually been previously working at company X.

Re:Ask HN: Self Hosting an Email Server? on Monday January 29, 2024 @01:51PM (#39180621)
Good point. I think that one of the things that got this discussion to fire up was that I didn't say that I didn't mind my emails going to spam box (I know it's very tricky getting whitelisted). And I think, some of those who say 'nope, impossible' is referring to getting whitelisted while those who say 'works fine for me' are people fine with not being whitelisted.
Re:Ask HN: Self Hosting an Email Server? on Monday January 29, 2024 @01:37PM (#39180338)
This seems like a very affordable and stable solution to be honest.
Re:Ask HN: Self Hosting an Email Server? on Monday January 29, 2024 @01:34PM (#39180294)
Fairly cheap, very similar pricing to Zoho, gonna look it up! What sorts of problems would occur if my static IP gets blacklisted?
Re:Ask HN: Self Hosting an Email Server? on Monday January 29, 2024 @01:32PM (#39180262)
$49 /year is putting me off to be honest. Zoho offer is 1/5 of that price.
Re:Ask HN: Self Hosting an Email Server? on Monday January 29, 2024 @01:31PM (#39180236)
€0,90/month at Zoho for Mail Lite right? How many domains can you setup with that? Their pricing page doesn't mention that https://www.zoho.com/mail/zohomail-pricing.html Other than that, I must say that Zoho is probably the cheapest option out there. I am using it right now (for free) but I can only setup one custom domain. This whole conversation have gotten me quite excited to see how good my ISP is so I have just ordered a RPi to try setup a email server at home (for fun).
Re:Ask HN: Self Hosting an Email Server? on Monday January 29, 2024 @01:24PM (#39180095)
Really funny story, it's hilarious that your ISP had a polite letter about this whole deal centuries ago. Where did ISP's go wrong?
