That's right. Punishment is the only way to deter the crowd of grifters. They act like raiding the government is risk free, because it is. No one of note in US politics or the Forbes 100 has been put in jail for a very long time. Why would they behave? There is no incentive to follow the law, and unlimited profits and power is too much to resist.

I like TUIs, they are much easier to sandbox than some native app or webapp.
Re:Plunging test scores are a slow-moving catastrophe on Saturday September 26, 2026 @01:02PM (#49858442)
Many, many times through out history knowledge and education have been destroyed to prop up some group that want to rule.
Rights must be demanded and defended constanrly, otherwise some tin pot dictator will take them without much of a fight.

Do you what your rights or not?

Re:Nvidia announces native GPU programming in Rust on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @09:18PM (#49735268)
the sole motivation is feeding and sheltering my family. in the time BC (before Clankers), rust was a better way to do that.
Is this essentially `watch git diff --compact-summary` or is there a benefit or feature of livediff I'm missing?

I'm so happy it worked out for the shareholders. /s
i have a RIGHT to privacy, and so does everyone on American soil. end of argument.
can this administration just do a single thing that isn't evil and self serving? it bogles my mind that every single thing they do is just awful.
Re:XCancel also down, at least for time being on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @07:30PM (#49442142)
The us system of government and many of its agencies are under attack by an administration that elon helped secure a win for. Excuse me for getting a little emotional towards a Nazi who supports the concentration camps we have on US soil.

I'll make every effort to avoid his products and bad mouth him every single time his name comes up.

he is hated.

i remember when SGI boxes were $50k and then literally worthless just a couple bears later. i remember my university had a pile of them for free outside the deans office.
Re:Could AIs Become Conscious? on Thursday August 20, 2026 @08:18PM (#49382066)
i think you bar is too high. i would argue dogs, cows, and pigs are conscious. it doesn't seem unreasonable to build an artificial system capable of reproducing and out competing a cow at doing cow things.
Re:Could AIs Become Conscious? on Thursday August 20, 2026 @08:15PM (#49382040)
i don't think LLMs are the entire answer, but they might be part of the solution. To me, LLMs feel a lot like system 2. I don't see a lot of people trying to build system 1. i don't think you can have consciousness without a body to keep alive and reward.
the government is made up of the people. the people are mostly greedy because our culture worships wealth. broken people, broken culture, broken government.
Re:OpenRouter is joining Stripe on Wednesday August 19, 2026 @06:52PM (#49368198)
Well Stripe is owned by Thiel, I'm sure there is some nefarious reason he wants to see everyone's chat history.
Re:U.S. Debt Hits $40T as America's Borrowing Binge Continues on Wednesday August 19, 2026 @05:21PM (#49367371)
Citizens United ruined the great american experiment. if you have seen the chart of campaign financing since CU, you would understand. Politicians have zero need to represent citizens because they know unlimited funds are available for marketing to keep/earn your seat.

America simply is no longer a democracy or representative democracy.

Re:Cursor launches Origin, GitHub alternative on Monday August 17, 2026 @07:35PM (#49339172)
i just wish the bubble would pop already. I'm just so over ai.
Re:AI;DR (AI; Didn't Read) on Monday August 17, 2026 @06:01PM (#49338283)
I don't think AI is ever fully going away, but I can't wait for the bubble to pop and customers are forced to pay the actual cost of tokens. i think that's the only way we see a meaningful reduction in slop.
There is no way to delete a highlight, I accidentally deleted the root node trying to remove a highlight, then the undo command wouldn't recall the root node .

very cool ice over all, its earned a spot in my dock for now.

Just a reminder to everyone to support weird and new browsers. we'll never get a new crop if we don't water and nurture the alternatives.
The only good thing that might come out of these extreme memory shortages is forcing careless developers to actually care about resources for once.
Re:How I use LLMs to learn complex topics on Sunday August 09, 2026 @08:20PM (#49237747)
I've found it helpfull to ask the LLM to generate a sylybus for the topic. treat the sylybus as a design doc for a price of software. i find they do much better when they have subtasks to focus on. they can do big picture and small picture, but they can't do both at the same time.
Re:FCC moves to ban Lidar-equipped foreign drones from US on Sunday August 09, 2026 @03:38PM (#49234935)
When the entire system is created with loopholes for the rich, this is what happens. lawlessness, disguised as lawfullness.
the police and entire justice system are on the side of capital. The peoples history of the united States by Howard Zinn covers many attempts Luke this. he makes a case for what works and what doesn't. its a large book, but you can find good summaries online.
Re:DeepSeek V4 Flash 0731 on Friday August 07, 2026 @08:47PM (#49217845)
The pricing was awesome, but deepseek just sent out emails warning of a large price increase.
You mean they are making useful software and not just eliminating people and groups that were investigating Elon in some way?
Re:Pi's Minimalism Is Its Advantage on Tuesday August 04, 2026 @09:32PM (#49177544)
You might appreciate https://nono.sh/

Its very easy to use and has a pre-made profile for pi. Just do something like `alias pi="nono run -v --profile pi --allow-cwd -- /opt/homebrew/bin/pi"` in your shell.

Re:Pi's Minimalism Is Its Advantage on Tuesday August 04, 2026 @09:29PM (#49177527)
OMP is great. I pair it with https://nono.sh/ and sleep alot easier at night.
This sort of thing has been happening for 500 years. The People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn should be required reading for every student and every voter.
Will this just trigger a crypto arms race? Bigger and tougher proof of work?
