Re:Iterate over Parameter Packs in Swift 6.0 on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @08:40AM (#50351859)
I know this has been released some time ago, but I had been waiting a long time to get it before it was released…

No. It’s actual models from Apple, trained from gemini outputs, which is not the same as reselling gemini.

Re:ElementaryUI – Swift, in the Browser on Friday October 30, 2026 @07:20AM (#50302455)
Properly written, Swift can beat rust[1]. (Obviously the rust project could probably catch up by using the same optimization techniques than the Swift project did, but my point is Swift has nothing to envy from rust in terms of performance.)

Swift’s philosophy is “easy to use first but you can go lower if you need performance.” Rust’s philosophy is kind of the opposite. I think Swift’s philosophy is a valid, and even a more interesting philosophy than rust’s, but to each his own.

wrt. migrating to ObjC/UIKit please do post references when issuing statements like these. Possibly migrating from SwiftUI to UIKit would give performance improvements, but that has nothing to do with Swift itself. SwiftUI is actually written mostly in C++ IIRC.

Re:For Love (Of Typography) on Friday October 30, 2026 @07:06AM (#50302338)
Well spotted, but I don’t think that invalidates the whole story.

Oh, someone else who types the typographic quotes! I love that story, it’s so good :)

There is a lot of work being done currently on the project as they prepare for v2.
Re:ElementaryUI – Swift, in the Browser on Friday October 30, 2026 @06:11AM (#50301885)
They will more likely rewrite Swift with Swift (actually they have done a small bit of it already).
Re:ElementaryUI – Swift, in the Browser on Thursday October 29, 2026 @07:42PM (#50297848)
‘cause Swift is great, I guess! And more seriously, probably for a shared logic with an iOS & android app.

Project that is still alive, amazingly.
Re:iPhone Duo: Impressions in Motion on Monday October 26, 2026 @10:42AM (#50244590)
Because the iPad form factor is actually very useful sometimes, but you don’t necessarily want to carry an iPad with you all of the time. I personally do (and use a mini as a daily phone), but can understand why some people would want something easier to carry.
Fastmail. They are good.
That’s, to put it plainly, dumb.
Re:Today, we hacked what we'd set out to hack: the iPhone on Friday October 23, 2026 @02:55PM (#50213736)
It mostly is. Has pretty much caught up with all of rust actually (while being much more readable).

It’s not possible. Logging in to a banking website is becoming strictly speaking impossible w/o a phone.

It. Don’t anthropomorphize AI.
Re:Claude Duet on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @03:36PM (#50186394)
Given that anti-AI posts are flagged faster than I thought possible despite a lot of positive comments, there are probably a lot of silent viewers that are pro-AI…

AFAICT it’s pretty much already a commodity. DeepSeek 4.1 has similar results for a fraction of the price.
