Re:SQLite is all you need for durable workflows on Friday May 29, 2026 @07:12PM (#48330578)
In all seriousness, I’d take a “s3 is all you need for durable workflows” and use it in data processing applications that move data from s3 -> s3 with no other dependencies.
For a webapp I’m building I started out with migra and plain sql, but ended up going with sqlalchemy partly because the library was deprecated. Great to see someone picking it up! Thank you.

I know this might be hard for some people to hear, but I want to share my thoughts to promote, in a small way, a common understanding of different perspectives.

My genuine trouble with this kind of post is that I don’t know if it is true.

How do I know the guy isn’t trying to get donations for local groups? Is that an odd question to ask after the dominant lens through which we analyze action is “cui bono?”

How do I know that this didn’t come from some Russian intel group? Is that an odd question to ask after Russian interference is all over the media during our elections?

It’s the problem of our society today: we don’t share a common view of reality.

Thanks - I didn't know this but that makes sense!

> But startups run on belief. Once you stop believing, the company is dead, even if the bank account isn’t. We had tried everything we set out to test. The data was clear: people weren’t switching. Grinding for another year hoping for a miracle wasn’t persistence; it was denial.

Big kudos to you for being honest with yourself. That kind of groundedness and self awareness is rare quality, and one I’d want in a leader of my company.

I thought the same about xAI / Grok, and was surprised to see the Grok Code Fast 1 at the top of the list for number of reasoning tokens processed in Open Router’s state of AI report that came out this month:

https://openrouter.ai/state-of-ai#reasoning-models-now-repre...

I applied and had the same experience you did—no confirmation and didn’t hear back.

If I recall correctly, it was explicit somewhere that they would only contact you if you were accepted. With the volume of applications they likely got, I give them some grace—I think it’s great they have a program like that at all.

First Things[0] is one of my favorite magazines. It has perspectives I rarely see anywhere else, and generally well articulated and argued for (provided you accept Christian first-principles).

New Polity Podcast[1] also regularly features smart conversations.

Re:Show HN: Grow and Monitor Your AI Search Traffic on Monday September 22, 2025 @09:54PM (#45341947)
Interesting! I can see this being valuable to retailers. One question I have after looking at the landing page--how does it work? Is this something like similarweb that tracks traffic and relevance? Or, is this something you put on your server to measure traffic? Something else altogether?
Re:When the job search becomes impossible on Tuesday September 16, 2025 @09:56PM (#45270669)
Thanks for the details—Its encouraging to hear how you approached it, and I’m glad it worked!

Can you share a little more? Because this is outside the norm I’m hearing and I’d like to know more.
Re:Kpt.dev on Monday September 15, 2025 @02:00PM (#45252910)
kpt is a package-centric toolchain that enables a WYSIWYG configuration authoring, automation, and delivery experience, which simplifies managing Kubernetes platforms and KRM-driven infrastructure at scale by manipulating declarative Configuration as Data.
Great work and I like the concept of Dashboards-as-Code. Thank you for building this.
Re:Ask HN: Want to leave my job with nothing lined up on Saturday August 02, 2025 @11:42PM (#44773916)
I know burnout can be extremely difficult.

Take a 2 week vacation first. Make sure it’s 2 weeks (or more, if you can swing it). One is not enough. Actually travel—it doesn’t matter where. Just get out of your normal environment and habits for a little while.

You’re not aiming to solve burnout with the vacation, but only getting some time and space to think and gain a little more perspective.

Same here - I regularly google things to see what the AI will say. I never used to do that a year ago.
Re:Show HN: Trilogy – A Reusable, Composable SQL Experiment on Monday November 25, 2024 @01:27PM (#42238688)
This is something I've never thought about before, and haven't had a use case for, so I'm genuinely interested in learning a little more about your use cases if you can elaborate a little futher.

Here's a theory about why at least some of these come about:

https://lethain.com/grand-migration/

Hah. There's literally an AI startup designed to automatically navigate confusing phone trees to get information from health systems:

I've been fiddling around with meltano and finicky singer taps for 2 weeks, and today I found dlt. What a breath of fresh air -- thank you for the work! I think this is the future over the meltano and singer ecosystem -- the code quality, simplicity and ease of integration into my project, and documentation really makes this project shine.
Re:Explaining tech's notion of talent scarcity on Tuesday April 25, 2023 @03:26PM (#35705409)
I note that there two pervading ethea on HN, both exemplified in the parent comment:

1) Poor management (broadly defined) creates misaligned incentives, busy work, etc. that "gets in the way" of good talent executing well.

2) Management, who "doesn't really do anything," is overpaid relative to the IC's who "Do the work."

These two ideas, though, are in contradiction. Management deserves higher pay exactly because poor management can destroy value so quickly and easily. The problem is identifying, within the "company system," good management from bad management.

I was pattern matching Carvana to a company called Sidecar[0] this summer when I heard my friend say he bought a car for something like $5k less than any dealership in town was offering it for.

Sidecar was the "3rd company" that did ride-sharing in my city in 2014-2015, after Lyft and Uber. Somehow they were selling rides from any point in the city to any other point in the city for $1. I suppose it was getting subsidized by VC money; and I took probably $500 worth of rides for a year or so until it shut down.

Re:You should not be using AWS. Probably. on Friday October 14, 2022 @01:23PM (#33206400)
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Yeah ideally we always use real resources to mirror prod closely, but I see your point that that won’t always be possible as the app grows.
Re:You should not be using AWS. Probably. on Friday October 14, 2022 @01:20PM (#33206363)
Thank you for the reply. That makes sense… I guess something about me just likes the purity of running the exact same container on my local machine as would be in prod, but yeah I agree that at some scale that doesn't work.
Re:You should not be using AWS. Probably. on Friday October 14, 2022 @10:30AM (#33203982)
The thing that holds me back from Google cloud run Is that it is difficult to replicate that exact environment locally for testing and dev. If you’re working with stateless apps then that’s fine, But what is the typical local workflow of developing against a database, task Queue, etc.?
Re:Actual is going open-source on Friday April 29, 2022 @04:06PM (#31210034)
personal capital is great. Yeah, I get a call from a rep asking for a meeting 1x/year. I politely decline and don't hear again from them til next year...not a big deal for a great 100% hands off dashboard.

This is also an indication of suicide.
