Oh, any links?
Thanks, this does make sense.
But you are not clicking on ads? And they aren't (yet?) in AI overviews?
Pretty remarkable (in the age of AI) that search/ad revenue actually grew 12%. Anyone have a rational explanation why is that the case?
Curious what was the source of faith you previously had?
Being paywalled is not an issue (better than ad-ridden), but not being able to have micro transaction in a browser with one click still is mind boggling. As a creator of a browser, taking some blame for that.
Just to note that Google is not mentioned in the title and indeed nowhere in the article. Searching the web is broader than 'google'.
Ad targeting was always creepy and we haven't learned much yet as a society from 2+ decades of that being predominant business model for most of digital tech - search, social media... If it is 'free', that just means you are paying in different currency, often more valuable.
Thanks for sharing, something incredibly beautiful about her surfaces through these photos.
> We need advertiserproof/trackingproof browsers.
Care to explain what do you mean by this and how would it work in practice?

API incurs very different usage patterns than humans do, That affects margins and professional plan was made years ago with human use in mind, not programatic access. Paying for only what you use for API is the most fair way to do it.
I owe my entire identity to this little machine. First laid my eyes on it in 1983, then unexpectedly got it from my uncle in 1984. It immediately opened my eyes to this new world of computer technology and sucked me right in.
Between games and writing first code in Basic, something magical was happening. Over the years it defined how I think, and ultimately who I am. Thank you C64 and thanks to everyone who worked on it

Feels nice to read this, thank you.
I actually do know what it’s like to have bombs falling on my head. I lived in Serbia during the US-led bombing in 1999. I continued using US company products during and afterward, and eventually moved to the United States, while many of my fellow countrymen drew a line similar to yours. I never felt that companies or individuals elsewhere owed me a boycott on my behalf. That experience shaped my reluctance to treat commercial relationships as endorsements of governments or their actions.
I acknowledge everyone draws their own moral line. I respect where you’ve drawn yours, and I ask for the same consideration in return. I don’t think either of us is going to change the other’s mind, so I’ll leave it here. I genuinely appreciate that you care enough about Kagi to have this conversation.
(Kagi founder here)
I respect that you're making a principled choice, even though we see this differently. Kagi uses products and services from companies around the world, including the USA, Europe, and China, but that does not imply endorsement of the actions (past, present, or future) of any of the governments where those companies are based. We'd rather focus on building great software than on things in the world we can't control. Our decisions are guided by the relentless pursuit of the best product quality, user privacy, and our goal of providing a user-centric alternative to dominant tech platforms.
edit: I encourage you (and others in similar dilemma) to watch our origin story to see why are we here and what it is that we stand for https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSntB1ip4RE
We'd love to hear from you about specific bugs.
Answer: ads as the main business model running the web since 25 years ago and us accepting the convenience 'free'.
It turns out everything has a price, and in more recent we started noticing that our time, attention and intelligence not being insulted also has value.
Enabling 'reader mode' in supporting browsers usually takes care of this.
