Re:John Bradley, author of xv, has passed away on Thursday March 26, 2026 @08:46PM (#47537769)
:waves: just saw tummy.com doesn’t resolve anymore. End of an era for sure.
Re:Sunsetting Jazzband on Saturday March 14, 2026 @06:09PM (#47381783)
Yep trust was always the issue here really. Don’t blame Jannis at all for being super careful about that.
Re:Build your own custom AI CLI with Pydantic AI on Tuesday February 24, 2026 @09:34AM (#47137661)
A great looking framework for building an interactive development experience on top of the already awesome Pydantic AI.
Re:Notes on Starting to Use Django on Wednesday January 28, 2026 @06:35AM (#46794036)
I end up needing to write a manual migration maybe once every other year in real world use.
Re:I Hate GitHub Actions with Passion on Wednesday January 14, 2026 @05:57PM (#46625142)
Sure thing. Also just made it easier to install with Homebrew since people seem to be liking it.
Re:I Hate GitHub Actions with Passion on Wednesday January 14, 2026 @08:09AM (#46615621)
Ah sorry need to make the docs more clear. You need to run ‘gg data refresh’ to populate the local DB first.
Re:I Hate GitHub Actions with Passion on Wednesday January 14, 2026 @07:30AM (#46615276)
I actually built the last thing last weekend weirdly enough.

gg watch action

Finds the most recent of currently running action for the branch you have checked out. Among other things.

It's super common with non-profits. Obviously they would prefer no strings attached but some light strings are usually not a problem for most non-profits.
Re:Perl's decline was cultural on Saturday December 06, 2025 @01:16PM (#46175334)
Yeah I think I would have been considered part of the “in” crowd of Perl to some degree and it wasn’t the culture that drove me away and to Python.

It was Django and the people involved with it.

Re:Happy 20th Birthday, Django on Tuesday July 15, 2025 @11:54AM (#44572467)
Yeah after the acquisition I’m sure they moved everything to whatever the parent company was using which totally makes sense.
Re:Happy 20th Birthday, Django on Tuesday July 15, 2025 @11:52AM (#44572447)
That would have been hard since both of those projects came out after Django, but just an FYI Jinja2 templates are supported and nothing stops you from using SQLAlchemy. Granted you lose a lot of the tight intergration that makes Django great to use.

Hi neighbor! :)
Re:Switching Pip to Uv in a Dockerized Flask / Django App on Tuesday June 24, 2025 @10:16AM (#44366525)
It takes 5 minutes to switch most projects. And less to go back to pip. Seems silly to waste a bunch of wall time when using pip when there is a super easy alternative that doesn't have high switching costs.
Re:Matt Godbolt sold me on Rust by showing me C++ on Tuesday May 06, 2025 @07:33PM (#43910742)
Yes and he’s a really cool nice guy to boot!
Re:Amazon's AI crawler is making my Git server unstable on Saturday January 18, 2025 @02:25PM (#42750717)
Have had several clients hit by bad AI robots in the last few months. Sad because it’s easy to honor robots.txt.
Re:Schwab users are unable to log in on Monday August 05, 2024 @10:38AM (#41161768)
The SEC does mandate SLAs and have for years. They’ll pay a hefty fine for this is my understanding
Re:Show HN: Protect your links with a password on Saturday June 29, 2024 @11:57AM (#40831483)
I hear what you're saying, but people DO just put stuff out there for it to exist and aren't necessarily looking to monetize it. Crazy I know :)
Might I suggest looking at django.contrib.auth.
It’s about a cute tech memory, which likely brings back various memories for us all. I think worrying about the worthiness of a tech news site isn’t worthy of our time.
Re:Microsoft stoops to new low with ads in Windows 11 on Thursday May 16, 2024 @01:07PM (#40380697)
I haven’t really used Windows on the desktop since the 90s but I DEFINITELY won’t be now.
Re:How I stopped worrying and loved Makefiles on Saturday April 27, 2024 @09:26PM (#40185180)
If you’re really looking for a tool to collect small steps/script I highly recommend you check out the ‘just’ cli tool. It’s completely replaced our use of Make and the syntax is much easier.
I think one area people miss out on is local meetups in a tech area you know and want to work with. Networking with those people you’ll discover which companies are good/bad/etc and then also know someone there.
Yep 33k here and I’ve had to replace all 4 but it’s been for hitting bad pot holes at speed, nails, etc.

7k is way too low, I would believe 25-30k for speedy drivers.

Thank you for putting it that way. I swear if the rest of the world just poked fun at us for using it, we would probably change it. “Awww look honey, the Americans are still using miles and pounds, isn’t that precious..”
