Blast from the past indeed! I ve toyed around with it, Ogre3D and others, finally setting down on P3D. Over a decade ago I maintained unofficial Panda3D Facebook page, and had page analytics track followers count again Ogre3D and Irrlicht Engine pages, trying to surpass them..

Very interesting! Have you by any chance shared the recepies anywhere?
As someone who often sees personal collections scathered around in the dust of flea markets, I would say there is nothing you can actually do to be safe. Even if your kids preserve it, their kids will _pay_ local gypsies to take it all away so they can renovate the houses and flats. From there it's as good as trash.

Mind elaborating?

Re:AI is killing the web. Can anything save it? on Monday July 21, 2025 @07:15AM (#44633851)
The story part is exactly what I appreciate though. The recipe, on most modern sites, is kinda separated, usually at the bottom, and often printable, anyway.

Care to elaborate? I was under impression they built cursor-server themself

It's their reimplementation.
I guess it depends on the context? For example panda3d supports openAL, FMOD and Miles.

> But hardware is super capital intensive, right?

Depends on what hardware, who is developing it, and for who. Proof of concept is almost always cheap enough to make. Beauty of HW is that you get PMF straight away - even if you have the worst completely broken product, but it it brings value to someone, they will pay for it. From there you can bootstrap, take on credit etc. Capital intense part can wait - refinement, certifications, patents, packaging, documentation, mass production etc. This is of course all under assumption that the core team knows how to build everything, if you're outsourcing in the prototype phase then you're probably toast anyway.

> So the right kind of investor could add significant value if they were aligned.

I always perceived value of investors to be everything but the money. If you need just the money then get a loan.

Point is that SEE exists, and so do free alternatives.

> In my understanding SQLite's support for sqlar and ZIP occurred at the same time

I believe so too.

I agree with you on SQLAR being poor general-purpose archive or compression format compared to ZIP; what I'm arguing is that its very good file format for certain applications, offering structured, modifiable, and searchable file storage. We had great success using it as db/file format for PLM solution packed both as desktop and web app. Same database can then be used to power the web ui (single tenant SaaS deployments), and for desktop app (web export is simply a working file for desktop app). This file being just a simple sqlite db lets users play with data, do their own imports, migrations etc., while having all files & docs in one place.

Re:Ask HN: What are you working on? (May 2025) on Sunday May 25, 2025 @05:27PM (#44091314)
A hybrid between forum and (headless) CMS, with customer support tools built in, so people can build websites that are kinda like posthog.com without having to patch everything together from scratch (and instead focus on their actual product AND not lose their community content in slack/discord/whatever).

Checkout how posthog did it [1], it's an interesting approach. Having something that can support both devs and content folks (non technical) is great. It is easy to get bogged down in building the website and reinventing bunch of wheeels, instead of focusing on the product & content, esp in smaller teams.

Re:On File Formats on Sunday May 25, 2025 @05:11PM (#44091169)
I remember seeing the comment you linked few years back, and back then comments were already locked so I couldn't reply, and this time I sadly don't have the time to get deeper into this, however - I recommend you to research more about sqlar/using sqlite db as _file format_ in general, or at minimum looking at SQLite Encryption Extension (SEE) (https://www.sqlite.org/see/doc/trunk/www/readme.wiki). You can get a lot out of the box with very little investment. IMHO sqlar is not competing with ZIP (can zip do metadata and transactions?)
Re:On File Formats on Sunday May 25, 2025 @02:38AM (#44086031)
sqlar proved a great solution in the past for me. Where does it fall short in your experience?
