News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

fractalnetworks

There's a place where people leave their mics on and figure it out together. Where someone shares their screen mid-struggle and five hands reach in to help. Where the person who installed the thing yesterday sits next to the person who's been hacking on it for months -- and they're peers.

No credentials. No gatekeeping. Just the sound of people thinking out loud, building in the open, and treating each other like they belong.

We the claw.

wtf is graphite and why do they assume everyone knows

Experimental feature supports bringing your own docker compose files.

Compose project can then teleport between devices with click of a button.

We’re hiring to bring self-hosting to the mainstream.

We have launched our VIP Access beta. Join our Discord!
We're working on migrating our abstractions to k3s, for now the system is powered by docker compose. Wouldn't be that much work to move from DR to HA deployments. Thanks for the feedback.
We replicate incremental BTRFS snapshots behind the scenes. Planning on adding snapshot management UI soon.
Fair point, what should we feature in the hero video?

Check out the selfhosted-gateway. You can do arbitrary tcp/udp port forwarding from a VPS: https://github.com/fractalnetworksco/selfhosted-gateway

We call it home-running. My company Fractal Networks is starting with "self-hosted" game servers (on Windows) to get the ball rolling. Check us out https://fractalhome.run.

We’re working on a consumer facing self-hosted Minecraft server solution: https://fractalhome.run

That said it’s powered by a general purpose distributed computing architecture so it will probably end up running AI workloads at some point.

Nice, check out the selfhosted-gateway if you're looking for something similar based on nginx + caddy + wireguard: https://github.com/fractalnetworksco/selfhosted-gateway
Re:I Moved My Blog from IPFS to a Server on Wednesday January 31, 2024 @11:37PM (#39212753)
yup ipfs literally doesnt work, why else did they need to do an ico and introduce centralized indexers...
By leveraging Django's db transaction machinery in concert with Django's post save signals we send full representations to a user configurable replication target.

We provide a Matrix (protocol) replication target implementation but system's architecture was designed to be transport and database agnostic.

Our goal is to make it easy for developers to build offline-first decentralized applications for private / permissioned networks.

Cool! Reminds me of Fractal Database, https://github.com/fractalnetworksco/fractal-database

PoC Django ORM replication engine that supports master-master replication in a decentralized context. With a Django based solution you can sync between any DB Django supports so MySQL <-> Postrgres <-> SQLite is easy peasy.

Disclaimer: I am the author and haven't written the README yet, but cool to see similar stuff nonetheless.

We have a subsidiary in stealth mode specializing on low cost ICF construction. Stay tuned!

thanks, I was extremely tired when we filmed the video. I'm the first guy, Mo. Our website is https://fractalnetworls.co
Check out fractalnetworks.co if you are looking for something similar that is still under active (commercial) development.

The move towards "growing your own food" or "baking your own bread" in the software sense does not necessarily equate to more work and less connection. On the contrary, it can lead to a deeper understanding and mastery of technology, fostering a sense of empowerment and self-sufficiency. Developing one's software or systems can provide tailored solutions to meet specific needs, which could result in less work in the long run because the tools are perfectly designed for their intended use.

Not to mention platforms like the one we develop makes deploying free software based self-hosted solutions push button, so there really isn't any excuse for sticking to the faceless "crowdware" providers.

This write up is awesome and will invariably save us some R&D over at fractalnetworks.co -- we're developing a consumer focused home server solution that is plug and play and offline by default.
