Re:Tesla Semi catches fire on I-880 on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @12:28PM (#50276318)
Is there an article every time a Mack Truck catches on fire?
Building more power plants seems like a pretty sane approach to me.

Good luck!
Saying AI has no benefit is pure ostrich head in the sand nonsense.
Its pure cope from the math community. One year ago if god came down and asked any of these math guys if they would want to see the proof of the Riemann Hypothesis they would all say yes. Now that the AI math god is here and handing out proofs they are all like 'not like that'!
Every technology advancement comes with good things and bad things. Fire - Good: can cook food, Bad: can be used for war.

Re:Java 27 Released on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @10:49AM (#49713431)
Because unless you are the only person maintaining your codebase other people in your organization will start using the cool new syntax sugar and optional functionality. So you will be forced to deal with it as it starts showing up in your codebase.
Why are people complaining about money going into FOSS?
Re:AWS Acquires DuckDB on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @11:53AM (#49451277)
There is no way the price tag is less than tens of millions right?
You are posting on a website that is hosted in a data center right now. You use data centers at your job to send email, share documents, run software. When you go home and watch netflix, that video is streamed to you from a data center. All of the internet, your phone, and modern digital entertainment and life is run through data centers. My guess is that you don't seriously want to turn all of that off because 'reasons'.
Re:Ask HN: GitHub employees what's going on? Why? on Monday August 17, 2026 @11:45AM (#49332899)
Github is owned by Microsoft, its not like its some boostrapped startup who has a closet of servers that are melting.
Re:Why does Opus 5 feel worse to work with? on Friday August 14, 2026 @10:23AM (#49299118)
Opus 5 is so wordy, it doesn't feel any better than 4.8 at coding (at least not for what I use it for), I hopped over to Grok4.6 after the announcement the other day and its been pretty good so far. It also is very fast.
Re:Grok 4.6 on Wednesday August 12, 2026 @09:20PM (#49280745)
the "no moat" stuff is dumb. There are only like 4 companies in the world that have cutting edge LLMs so there is definitely a moat.
Its all drones and one F-15, its not like dozens of F-22s or F-35 are being shot out of the sky
If you own a $20,000 car and I steal it, is your loss not $20k? (excluding depreciation etc)
Lets prevent cognitive debt by manually retyping the assembly that is generated by our compilers...

People are only allowed to take funding from investors whose politics align with yours?
Re:Claude Opus 5 on Tuesday July 28, 2026 @04:14PM (#49089320)
A counterexample proves that the conjecture is false, not sure what you are talking about. And we can play word games all day about what counts as a "new brilliant scientific idea" but the fact is that no human had been able to solve it.
Re:So, you want to make a game engine (2023) on Tuesday July 28, 2026 @02:37PM (#49088088)
Speak for yourself dude. I programmed a game engine in Java in 2011 right after I graduated college, and it powers a game that I launched on Steam in 2015. https://github.com/FourSeventy/sylver_engine
Re:Did They Ghost You? on Saturday July 25, 2026 @08:28PM (#49053323)
I was recently interviewing candidates for a senior software engineer in Boston. I did about 20 interviews and only got 1 follow up/thank you email. I didn't send rejection emails to candidates that didn't send a follow up.
Re:Claude Opus 5 on Saturday July 25, 2026 @09:11AM (#49047326)
Like two days ago Claude solved a century old math conjecture
Re:Patreon laying off 20% of staff on Friday July 24, 2026 @10:25AM (#49036166)
1.) The c-suite is like 6 people, reducing their salary isn't going to make much of a dent.

2.) The c-suite are compensated at market rate the same as anyone else. If the CTO at Patreon is making 400k/yr you can't just cut his salary to 200k, he will leave and take a job somewhere else.

Re:Patreon laying off 20% of staff on Friday July 24, 2026 @10:13AM (#49035972)
Well if the company goes out of business because its not making enough profit then all product launches will cease.
Re:Patreon laying off 20% of staff on Friday July 24, 2026 @09:41AM (#49035459)
I watched this dudes youtube channel where he makes music for years before I ever knew he was the CEO of pateron. It was a bit of a wtf moment when I found out.
Re:C++20 Improved the For-Loop Syntax on Tuesday July 14, 2026 @08:31PM (#48914755)
Just what C++ needs, more bloat lol.
Re:My Thoughts on the Bun Rust Rewrite on Thursday July 09, 2026 @09:40AM (#48845685)
Are you serious? If I told you to your face "you are shitty at your job" you don't see that as a personal attack?
Re:My Thoughts on the Bun Rust Rewrite on Thursday July 09, 2026 @09:31AM (#48845548)
So is this guy going to dress down any project that decides to move off of Zig? If Mitchell Hashimoto decides to move Ghostty off of Zig to C or Rust will we get a scathing blog post about that too?
Re:Resetting Xbox on Tuesday July 07, 2026 @10:55AM (#48818723)
Tell me you know nothing about business without telling me you know nothing about business.
