Remember those "offline" weekends? They are gone too... :)
Re:Linux System Monitoring Tools on Monday November 15, 2010 @10:05AM (#1906430)
For people that care about security, I would add those monitoring tools:

-OSSEC - log + file system security monitoring (http://ossec.net)

-Snort - Network-based IDS (http://snort.org)

-Sucuri (not free) - web site monitoring (http://sucuri.net)

Try OSSEC: http://www.ossec.net (open source log-based intrusion detection tool).
Re:Google top 1000 sites: Interesting stats about them on Wednesday June 02, 2010 @05:24PM (#1399441)
Nginx with 14% of market share is indeed very interesting, very close to IIS (17%).
Re:F-Secure Stopped Facebook Worm With A Phone Call on Sunday May 23, 2010 @08:03AM (#1372153)
I think the 15 second was just an expression to "very quickly"
Re:Twitter, Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal on Wednesday March 31, 2010 @12:27PM (#1232226)
It will be way less common, specialy considering that you can't execute anything in there...
Re:What happens when two kids sleep only two hours a day? on Sunday March 28, 2010 @07:45PM (#1225454)
Just have a kid and you will learn by yourself. If he is colic, you will get even less.
The best cheapest and easiest one is Paypal.
Re: on Tuesday March 16, 2010 @10:57AM (#1195806)
No doubt: open source it. It will benefit more people and it is better than shutting down or getting pennies for it.
Re:Why most companies don’t develop software for Linux on Friday March 12, 2010 @03:06PM (#1187655)
I wish I could mod you up more. I am a big foss fan boy (can see by my nick), but most people don't care about licensing, if the code is open or not, etc.

They want something that works and fit their needs. That's it.

Re:Apache.org defaced - Security archive case study on Sunday March 07, 2010 @07:49PM (#1174366)
I agree! I jumped into the article when I saw apache.org defaced....
Re:HN Uptime Visualized: Lots of mini-outages lately? on Wednesday February 17, 2010 @07:20PM (#1133039)
what tool do you use to generate these stats?
Very funny... I wonder what other tools have this kind of funny easter egg.
Well, quick response because they realized they screwed it up...
Re:Steve Jobs giving an in-house speech at Apple, circa 1997 on Sunday January 31, 2010 @03:27PM (#1091015)
Awesome speech, but world changing? no..
Joomla, for example doesn't dump their version in the generator field (nor does mediawiki, I believe). Only wordpress like to do that.
Simple but works... In the same way that if you modify your tcp/ip stack, nmap (or p0f) will get all confused and report the wrong os,
Cool stuff. I have been using Sucuri's Network Integrity monitor for the same thing... I monitor my own sites and some pages that I am interested to be notified when they change.

That can be very useful as an intrusion detection system if your pages are modified without you knowing it.

Re:Downforeveryoneorjustme is down on Tuesday January 26, 2010 @01:28PM (#1078353)
It seems to be back now...
Re:Twitter 'flat lined' with new user base on Tuesday January 26, 2010 @01:27PM (#1078352)
And they will go downhill from now on...
