Re:EthicalAds, a privacy-focused ad network for developers on Thursday December 17, 2020 @12:34PM (#25457844)
1. Thanks for the input! I'll submit that as well :)

2. Luckily we run our largest publisher, which is how we seeded the market. Now we are doing the classic balancing act on both sides

3. Yep -- it helps :)

4. Yea, we do keyword-targeted ads: https://ethical-ad-client.readthedocs.io/en/latest/#page-spe... -- this allows publishers to target the ads based on content of the pages.

Thanks for the feedback/questions! Maybe I should also do a Show HN: to get more ideas.

NSLookup definitely looks like a fit for us at EthicalAds. You can ping me at the email in my bio and we can get you signed up.

I think this is an obvious place that someone in the ecosystem could apply money and make their supply chain (and everyone else's) safer.

Re:No More Google on Monday November 02, 2020 @04:16PM (#24973462)
We're trying to build an ad network that stands in stark opposition to Google's tracking: https://www.ethicalads.io/advertising-vision/ -- it's still early days, but we're always look for more OSS projects and products to join.
Our javascript is super small in terms of loading the ad, and we don't allow advertisers to add their own JS. So it shouldn't effect performance at all.

You can see our JS here: https://github.com/readthedocs/ethical-ad-client/blob/master...

No Trump?
And no touchbar! This is a lovely new machine.

Glad to see they kept the original essence and just seemingly updated it.
Curious of the politics that has folks in Idaho talking so warmly about renewable energy. If you believe the national news, all red states want to keep burning coal. Curious about the background here.

Re:Supporting open source with 3% of our revenue on Monday January 07, 2019 @04:08PM (#18850095)
Neat. I wrote about a similar idea a while back, which might add some other arguments if people want to pitch it to their own company: https://www.ericholscher.com/blog/2018/mar/9/one-percent-for...
Re:The Founder’s Guide To Selling Your Company (2014) on Thursday January 25, 2018 @02:08PM (#16233570)
Anyone have good links on selling a company that actually has revenue?
I'd rather turn them into email list subscribers, so my messages always go to them without having to pay FB money.

Guessing someone edited the title. It’s taking about documentation, and should say "Building documentation mindshare in a company".
Re:The End of Gratipay on Thursday November 02, 2017 @04:21PM (#15613907)
I think it's a lesson that the entire tech community is learning slowly (and marginalized people have been shouting about for years, to their credit).

They were one of the pioneers in the space of sustainability around open source, which led to many of the wonderful projects we have today. Thanks to Chad for putting so much work in over the years towards a worthwhile mission.
Re:Migrating Slack's Desktop App to BrowserView on Monday October 30, 2017 @01:18PM (#15586898)
Tried the new beta: it lost all my configured networks, and I had to re-add them all. Otherwise, it seems _way_ faster than the old one, and definitely an upgrade.
Tesla is amazing at marketing. Elon also seems like a genuinely good person, which helps.
Re:The License Zero Manifesto on Friday October 06, 2017 @01:10PM (#15418393)
So, what is your suggestion for funding truly open source software, then?

Are they behind the schedule they quoted you when you reserved it?
