a lot of comments are dismissive of these generated convos because of out how obvious it is that these convos are generated. i feel like that's a high bar. you can tell that GTA5 is generated, but it's close enough to be fun. i imagine that's as close as we'll get with conversational AI

Re:Ask HN: What pay to target when joining a startup? on Thursday July 27, 2023 @06:04PM (#36900767)
most start-ups I've worked for have been transparent about operating budgets and runway, but I can't think of any that would open up the books to a random employee, let alone a candidate.
wasn't it already nerfed?
I believe so. and while it's not significantly worse, it is worse. thumbnails don't populate as consistently, the menu has me full screening a chat sometimes, it's just not as nice.
agreed. but as long as the investors are to move their shares during the IPO before a complete exodus occurs, they are perfectly happy with that outcome.
he's literally doing exactly what the board wants. reddit's investors are more than happy to sacrifices users and the user experience for profitability.

this might have been news is like, 2009, but it's certainly not a new trend worth reporting.

uh ya no shit. start-ups froth over having devs with experience at big tech co's so they can throw the logos on their decks. thank the lord the WSJ is performing society-driving journalism like this.
Odysee is the one I see referenced the most
the end is nigh. tragic, but inevitable. adblockers are the only thing that make YT worth using. honestly hard to imagine ever going back to that site once adblockers are kaput.
the term is much more popular in Aus than in the states, in my experience. there is more of a 'ambition can/will hurt you' culture.
absolutely not
Re:Ask HN: How do I find my “purpose”? on Wednesday November 09, 2022 @12:13PM (#33534666)
do drugs. travel alone. try lots of different kinds of jobs. good luck.
Definitely not
Ya, I have much more faith in the courts to discern fair deployments of dark patterns than I do any legislative body.
I share your sentiment, but I'm not sure there are any legislators I trust to understand or regulate dark patterns effectively.
lol ya web scrapers are pretty targeted. unless you're the nsa, it's pretty tough to vacuum up everything.
Re:Sleeping. Closed for business. 10p to 6a on Wednesday March 16, 2022 @08:49PM (#30706149)
ya i could see some kind of interstitial like those newsletter pop-ups being effective that basically said 'we're offline for the night, we will respond to you in X hours'. to make the website less functional or accessible seems a bit extreme.
this has happened to me. there are no resources for recovery or recourse anywhere in the world at all. google won't help you. law enforcement won't help you.

those accounts are lost. close what you can and open new accounts with 2FA.

Thanks for posting, Pablo. I'll ask around and see if I can find some opportunities.
Assuming the board are unable or unwilling to salvage FF for the sake of Mozilla, would it be worth considering starting a new non-profit browser based on FF? A new organization without all that baggage? WaterWolf or something?
I completely rule out a company if Taleo is part of the application process, tbh.
Re:Ask HN: Who offers loans on startup equity? on Wednesday February 09, 2022 @05:08PM (#30279230)
