Not true in Australia

"you either have a commit bit (enabling you to commit code to FreeBSD's repositories) or you don't. It's hard to find code reviews, and there generally isn't a fixed process ensuring that vitally important code gets reviewed prior to inclusion"
Doesn't sound very professional!
Oracle cloud is part of the HN bubble?

From what I gather AWS also offers AMD and ARM-based instances.

I don't see how it benefits the cloud providers not to offer these choices. No one benefits from a monopoly and they want to drive the cost of their services down.

Re:Quarkus 1.8.1 – Kubernetes native Java framework on Thursday September 24, 2020 @02:41AM (#24575952)
When both are running on the JVM, there still appears to be a significant performance difference, so it should be interesting to compare after the port...

I love this article and I think about it every time I see Assange in the news.

Ignoring whatever you think of his actions and the political ramifications, it paints a vivid picture of a deeply flawed human.

Look at the platform demographics and the target audience. For example if you're targeting developers, the market share increases significantly!
Re:Ghosting Assange on Wednesday June 17, 2020 @09:03AM (#23550841)
This article really informed my opinion on Assange. No matter what you think about the public benefit of his actions, he's clearly deeply flawed in some regards.
Re:Ways to Tweak Slow SQL Queries on Monday September 02, 2019 @01:43AM (#20857007)
AFAIK it's also proportional to the number of rows with data in the indexed columns. Inserting a row with a NULL in the indexed column does not cause an update to the index (at least experimentally it doesn't seem to contribute to index size on SQL Server).

I imagine this is/was a simple optimization for DBMS to implement, but I would love to be corrected otherwise...

I like this honesty and transparency, employers such as Microsoft encouraging it's employees to act in this way is a good thing.

Shutting down discussion behind lawyers and bland public statements should be discouraged.

The best antidote to an anecdote is one from the opposite angle. At least it starts me thinking who I should believe (if anyone) and why.
Any company that isn't collecting data on which features are being used is missing an opportunity
Worth bearing in mind that if you develop and ship software to third parties, you're going to want a lot of debug statements in the logs, so don't omit them completely!
