OP here. I never intended to "rage bait" or something. With "Chrome-ish" i ment Chromium-based browsers. That's what i ment by "it feels like basically everything is Chrome nowadays". My question was: Taking FF out of the equation, which browsers except Chromium-Based ones are out there?

Pretty cool but do you store any sensitive information in there? Do you trust Microsoft?

I used Joplin a few years ago but at some point I couldn’t restore synced notes and had some data-loss. This experience still makes me shy away from using it again…. Has it gotten better?

Yo I totally thought about using just files in a git repo myself. However I’m reluctant on trusting GitHub with my notes. Maybe is self-host a git repository and use that. Hmm thanks thoughts like these are exactly why I posted this.

Also looking into Möbius, which is an iOS implementation of syncthing.

Oh wow! I did not know about anytype. Thank you for showing me another option. How long has the software been around? What is your personal setup? Do you use it?

Ask HN: How do you synchronise your notes?

tl;dr: How is your personal / work setup?Long version: I’m starting to burn out searching for a note system that suites my needs and values. My values: - Privacy and Security - Open SourceMy needs: - Markdown writing - Note printing (somewhat beautiful) - OS agnostic (i use Linux/iOS) - Sync across devices. - PDF storage (this is where trust comes in, as some documents contain sensitive info)My...

How did You learn about chess strategy?
Gotta step in as a GrapheneOS User. You have multiple options.

The easiest and most approachable one is: install Aurora Store from F-Droid. It gives you access to Google Play + App Updates without logging you into Google. This almost feels identical to Google Play itself.

Next: think about install the Experimental GMS Support that GrapheneOS offers. If you e.g. absolutely need an App that has troubles working without Google SDKs embedded, this might be an option. This is documented in the Usage Guide of the Website.

https://grapheneos.org/usage

However, just dont forget that you wanted a Google-FREE Phone. So dont overdo installing proprietär stuff.

Oh and stay as far away from MicroG as possible, it seriouly cripples the security of GrapheneOS by a lot.

I‘m currently part of a team that needs help with C++ development. My background is around 9 years of iOS / macOS development using ObjC / Swift and a few projects using C#.In the recent months / years I tried to hone my software-craftsmanship and stay up-to-date on stuff like TDD, functional programming, protocol-oriented-programming, moving away from...

Ask HN: Robust HDD and enclosure for archiving and backup?

„How to best preserve data for a very long term?“I get it that this questions seems rather superficial. But please hear me out:Which HDD to buy?I had a WD MyPassport fail on me once. I opened it but the connector was custom-made. Removing it from the enclosure was a rough adventure - I basically ended up “breaking free” the HDD from the plastic case. I had to connect a custom USB-A Connector to...
