Re:A story on home server security on Sunday January 05, 2025 @09:01AM (#42601783)
The exploit is not known in this case. The claim that it was password protected seems like an unverified statement. No pg_hba.conf content provided, this docker must have a very open default config for postgres.

`Ofcourse I password protected it, but seeing as it was meant to be temporary, I didn't dive into securing it properly.`

I was mostly interested in the name and the pronunciation section kind of ruined it for me

its really hard to ignore the persons character, but not addressing the argument (and instead talking about the persons character) is a logical fallacy.

I haven't tried this at scale, but was pleased with 6 participants on my $200 r710 hardware with 10megabits upload connection service. Memory usage is minimal, couple GB tops. Not running high-res, but was good enough. I mean they develop this and make it freely available for self-host, I'm pleased.
what kind of issues you running into? hit me up. [email protected]
...I kinda thought it was neet-o
I've run 6 on jitsi.
I have an old R710 with 24 cores and 32GB I got on ebay for $200 in my dining room with 10mbits upload/100 download and it works great. bought my .me domain for $5. It's a wonderful time to be alive.
I run this at the house with 10mbits upload connection. have had 6 users, it was fine.
It not my experience at all. In fact it was the easiest install I have ever done. It knew I was using nginx as a reverse proxy and inserted itself correctly as a subdomain. The only issue I had was webmin was running on port 10000 which created a conflict because it also wanted to bind to 10000.

As far as I can tell the only way to use this is to push everything into a mysql instance. def some pros and cons there.
Re:Is It Time to Rethink Globalized Supply Chains? on Thursday March 19, 2020 @01:09PM (#22629452)
Globalized Supply Chains incentives cooperation (like not war)
Almost all companies re-invest at the rate of depreciation, which is why depreciation rates are a good approximation of cash you are going to have to spend. Move on down to "investing activities" on your cash flow to see all that "non-cash" depreciation bleeding out. Better yet, check out a balance sheet. Net income = change in balance sheet YoY.

I've also used this product but it's more of an operating environment than just a database. Super convenient on the front end. On the down side, getting data out of it is extremely expensive if you aren't targeting a single record ID. It's also not ACID compliant.

I worked for a company that had old underground mines and a power company used them to fill with compressed air when energy was cheap and then release and generate electricity when it is more expensive. My company got a cut.
Re:Dear Postgres on Friday October 13, 2017 @10:40AM (#15466088)
yes and they are under transactions that your can roll-back, does MySQL do that?
Re:Dear Postgres on Friday October 13, 2017 @10:39AM (#15466067)
Here's a couple reasons: - call functions(stored procs) as tables and join to them - regular expressions - order by in your views & functions - order by INSIDE your aggregates - create your own aggregates - make your own window functions - left join on your recursive CTE - put temp tables in your function(stored proc) that you can also call as a table (see above) - lateral joins - filter syntax to do pivots - WITH ORDINALITY - generate_series - dollar quoting - write-able CTE's - arrays - ranges - intervals - jsonb (which can be indexed)

1. transformative/analytic functions 2. huge variety persisted formats 3. ability to store logic in the DB tier and re-use it

Re:PostgreSQL Parallel Query v2 on Monday March 20, 2017 @12:15PM (#13915350)
I don't see how Red Hat has open sourced anything, the direction they are taking things is proprietary, not open.
Re:PostgreSQL Parallel Query v2 on Tuesday March 14, 2017 @05:36PM (#13871678)
The relationship between EnterpriseDB and the at-large Postgres community has always intrigued me. Why do they turn over to the community what they could make part of their proprietary fork? Maybe they make a lot of money consulting and not just licenses and general at-large adoption is good for that side of business.
