What would be actual use cases ? I mean, I get the nerdery of having the fastest possible network, but in practice ?

They are mandatory on boats, even for smaller ones, and that's how you can get some in Europe.
Well, to this day one can consider this true, looking at tiktok et al.

French here ( also parent of 3). France has strong fiscal incentive for families ( esp. for 3+ kids ), but that won't solve the housing issue : more money will just increase prices... Prices are high mostly because of the low supply.
You van already do Bruxelles to Perpignan with a direct ( french ) TGV train, in 6/7 hours. If you want to go to Spain I believe bruxelles Barcelona via Paris is also quite practical. Everything is much pricier than plane and no night train though

I own one, mine's really waterproof, I almost always forget to take it of when doing the dishes or bathing the baby. Agree, it's great, I only wish it had some kind of transflective lcd screen ( like the garmin's ) : better battery life and always readable screen...

This french dude has been building a GT40, documenting everything along the way on its youtube channel : https://www.youtube.com/c/BenjaminWorkshop ( in french )
"Worth nothing, the most time consuming part was dealing with data itself and not model training or machine learning."

Become a data scientist they said. Yay, artificial intelligence...

Nice !
"There may only be a temporal and not a causal link between vaccines and reactions." You tell me about clickbaity titles... People die. Like all the time, vaccine or not.
It's usually largely under "regular" market value. ( but that's still a bet over the life expectancy of the person ). Also you basically don't pay interests. And in some times you can use the property : the seller use the money to pay for a nursing home for example.
Does someone know if radiolysis is being researched as a source of commercial hydrogen ( like, for fuel cell vehicle for example ) ? I mean a nuclear reactor might produce heat and hydrogen from radiolysis if I understand correctly ? Is this practical at scale ?
Re:Ansible 4.0 on Thursday May 20, 2021 @02:08AM (#27217966)
Exactly : not everyone gets to play with a kube cluster. Also there is a lot of sysadmins that don't trust docker-in-prod...
Re:Show HN: How does the French health pass work? on Wednesday May 19, 2021 @06:37AM (#27206772)
Like the original author states, than can't be done without a trusted 3rd party ( say a token with a service telling you whether the pass is valid at current date)
Re:Show HN: How does the French health pass work? on Wednesday May 19, 2021 @06:30AM (#27206719)
You present the document given either when you got your vaccine shot, or when you did your pcr test ( both actually includes a signed datamatrix that you can scan with the app )
Re:Just Use Email – How to Use Email for Everything on Wednesday May 12, 2021 @09:10AM (#27129913)
Organisation, I tend to disagree conversation/threading is fundamentally broken with email. I really liked nntp for that stuff but alas...
Re:Ask HN: Mobile phone addiction help? on Monday May 03, 2021 @06:10PM (#27031474)
SMS as a 2nd factor is ( for a very good reason ) prohibited by dspp2 European directive. You.might have escaped that with brexit though. Even old school banks ( French dude here ) are forced to use apps as 2fa, but my bank for example can provide an hardware token, or a smartcard.
Yet, gravity is strong enough to initiate nuclear fusion at the core of stars, or create black holes... That 10^36 argument is non sensical to me.
Re:Awesome-Selfhosted on Wednesday April 14, 2021 @04:44PM (#26812818)
Also : marketing / discoverability
HN crowd is too "first-world" centric : to me this is an attempt at taking over digital micropayment that ubiquitous now in third world economies where the informal economy is strong, and not everyone has access to banks, payment cards/terminal for your "side of the road" business, but now (cheap) smartphones are everywhere. At least that's how I would market the stuff if I were signal
That's definitely not the direction taken by society... Pandemic, convenience, online businessew ( yeah, I know we could physically mail cash for online purchases but, come on... )
One can argue than most people don't care about private messaging as well... I find it a bit scary that my bank has all my purchasing data : they basically know everything about me that way, what if they decide to sell this data ?
But then, you haven't solved the private electronic payment...
Re:Django 3.2 on Tuesday April 06, 2021 @08:59AM (#26711238)
For 1. I have found that a custom admin command can go a long way. If you want to be more "reactive" have a look at this asgi/channels thing... That or custom pythons scripts with the caveat of pointing correctly the DJANGO_SETTINGS ... As for 2. Well... Basically every ORM no ?
I recently discovered alpine.js it's really nice for quick front stuff without getting too dirty with touching js...
Re:We Don’t Use Docker on Tuesday March 16, 2021 @07:54AM (#26475531)
I was expecting the sqlite comment ;-) still : you need to handle migrations, you may very well have other dependencies on external APIs or services ...
Re:We Don’t Use Docker on Tuesday March 16, 2021 @06:44AM (#26475054)
It's never as simple as "slap an exe and launch it" : even super simple MVCs need some server state ( lucky you if you don't ! ) : this means db migrations, configs ... Not that docker solves this though. Also I disagree with the "can't do this with java" : any JVM based framework offers self sustained jars packaging ( might be slightly bloated, OK ).
