Re:Linux: We need tiling desktop environments on Monday August 26, 2024 @11:46AM (#41358328)
I'm surprised there hasn't been any mention of my favorite rust based tiling windows manager - LeftWM (https://github.com/leftwm/leftwm?tab=readme-ov-file#why-go-l...)

It was the first google result for me when googling. So here I am.
Re:Google Bard enters open beta on Tuesday March 21, 2023 @11:44AM (#35247831)
Does anyone know what is the "knowledge horizon" cutoff date for Bard's training data?

The cutoff date for ChatGPT's "knowledge" is referred to as the "knowledge horizon" or the "knowledge cutoff date", and in the case of ChatGPT it's September 2021.

Maybe related to differences in law per country, and how the content must get filtered?
Re:What Happened with the Substation Attack in North Carolina? on Saturday January 21, 2023 @07:49PM (#34472776)
I'm guessing that even if the odds are minuscule, if they were caught, the consequences would be too disastrous for everybody, to make it worth it.

Seriously, how can I buy some of his shares of spacex?
Re:How Debian cron handles DST transitions on Wednesday October 27, 2021 @03:01PM (#29017571)
As the very last line mentions, "use UTC" and avoid silly DST issues like this.
Re:We are publishing the tax secrets of the .001% on Tuesday June 08, 2021 @12:44PM (#27437567)
This tax deferment only applies to investment property. As I understand it, if you're living there, then 1031 is not an option for you.
I wouldn't be surprised if UHaul started this as a service. Seems like a perfect fit to me.

They are not going out of business.

I'm shocked! Valve doesn't accept bitcoin as a payment option? :)
Re:Aalto Talk with Linus Torvalds on Sunday June 17, 2012 @01:14AM (#4122290)
I used the title 'Linus to Nvidia: "Fuck You"'.

Apparently, a clueless moderator decided to change it.

Re:Moderators of HN: please stop changing post titles on Saturday June 16, 2012 @11:00PM (#4122092)
Another title change example: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4121698

I submitted a link with the title: 'Linus to Nvidia: "Fuck You"', which was changed to: 'Aalto Talk with Linus Torvalds'

My original title was much more accurate (especially since I linked to a specific part of the video).

Re:Aalto Talk with Linus Torvalds on Saturday June 16, 2012 @10:25PM (#4122043)
I guess the moderators were offended by a four letter word.

"People who get offended should be offended!" - Linus

Re:Aalto Talk with Linus Torvalds on Saturday June 16, 2012 @08:47PM (#4121915)
I think the real issue is that Nvidia is the most closed when it comes to releasing specs. With the proper specs, open source developers will produce better drivers than Nvidia.
Re:Aalto Talk with Linus Torvalds on Saturday June 16, 2012 @08:11PM (#4121854)
His comment was more general:

"You can disagree with me as much as you want, but during this talk, by definition, anybody who disagrees is stupid and ugly, so keep that in mind."

Re:Aalto Talk with Linus Torvalds on Saturday June 16, 2012 @07:41PM (#4121780)
Unlike Intel and ATI, Nvidia doesn't play nice with open source developers.
Re:Aalto Talk with Linus Torvalds on Saturday June 16, 2012 @07:40PM (#4121776)
From "If you like subversion, you are ugly and stupid" and now this. I always enjoy this man's talks.

How can they not accept bitcoin donations?
Re:Bitcoin on Monday November 28, 2011 @02:01AM (#3284916)
The bump, if any, from this story will probably be overshadowed by today's Fox Business News blurb:

Re:Dave Winer: Why I stand up for Stallman on Monday October 31, 2011 @07:07PM (#3179581)
The development tools might be free, but OSX certainly isn't, especially when you factor in the overpriced hardware. This is the number one reason I picked Android development over iOS.
Re:Did a reporter just solve the bitcoin mystery? on Tuesday October 04, 2011 @09:37AM (#3070811)
Until they try to trace it to an actual person...
In the grand scheme, bitcoin, (or a derivative technology) could certainly become a game changer in the not too distant future. Accepting bitcoin probably doesn't hurt.
Have you considered adding bitcoin as a payment option? Seriously, it's nearly free and easy to manage, even with the rapid price changes. Plus you get extra attention by adding your store to the growing directory of merchants who accept bitcoin.
This last sentence, from the article, indicates that this ruling is actually a step backward:

"On EFF's request, the Librarian of Congress renewed a 2006 rule exempting cell phone unlocking so handsets can be used with other telecommunications carriers. Cell phone unlockers have been successfully sued under the DMCA, even though there is no copyright infringement involved in the unlocking. Digital locks on cell phones make it harder to resell, reuse, or recycle the handset, prompting EFF to ask for renewal of this rule on behalf of our clients, The Wireless Alliance, ReCellular and Flipswap. However, the 2009 rule has been modified so that it only applies to used mobile phones, not new ones."
