Seeing this just feels like this whole thing is just some sort of trick by Big SaaS™ Use a strong copyleft license or go away.

> but developers have reasons to prefer MIT

Hi! as a developer, I personally prefer it when the libraries/tools used in my projects are GPL or another Copyleft license. The drove of MIT projects from the past decade has been depressing.

Some people think there's no point if you're not allowed to steal the code and not give back

I would not consider the ancient Nvidia shield the "most popular" streaming device.

If I had to guess, the latest Applied Science video on YouTube which somewhat showcased it.

As an outsider this was fun to watch. Namely, the dozens of l33t haxors including so-called "professionals" who claimed they'd be able to solve this in a jiffy with their magic exploits, yet couldn't.
Banning the dime a dozen slop projects popping up every 5 minutes isn't so bad of an idea, but banning new, or projects that have less than 3 contributors is just wrong. XZ would be banned from being posted. There's also the fact that it appears to be a blanket ban on LLM contributions, so I guess the Linux kernel is verboten?

Suddenly all the people who claim that these PHP exploits are so easy that a baby could do it are clamming up at the opportunity to showcase it. Plenty of "I/We can do this easily, but uh.. we uhh.. don't want to right now bye" going on.

Sure you can.

Removing freedom, and control will never get rid of scammers. Nor will it get rid of the plethora of poorly written corporate owned apps that will still be allowed to fester. It won't even get rid of the apps that scammers use to scam.
It's a flawed, and unreliable metric. Other metrics like SSIMULACRA2, CVVDP, or Butteraugli are more reliable/accurate and should be used if one cares about quality.
I was hoping this would be a post announcing the death of VMAF from Netflix, alas.

I make do on multiple trackers with a home connection and a spare computer. If you cannot, then either you're doing something wrong, or should move to a different, easier tracker.

I wouldn't consider a requirement that people to upload as much as they download a "bad habit" it's called not being a leech.

It really hurts the fingers to type "make no mistakes" in every prompt.

Been waiting for lazy imports for a long time now, glad to see them finally.
There can never be enough money for these people.
Apollo 14? Is that a new model?
The FIA has this software to stop teams from creating a form of traction control (which has been banned for a good while now)

Not agreeing with Eich, but it's interesting that he is the one who gets so much hate for Prop 8, being kicked out of Mozilla for it, even though it passed in California with 7 million votes.

Running a Tor exit node is a manual process. Running a hidden service like a website, or chat server doesn't involve anything like that.
IMO this should be the URL. Current one is barely an article, more of a message than anything.
There's no gatekeeping here.
Re:Rune is now open source on Friday September 11, 2026 @02:09PM (#49662741)
Lovely to see, this was my main gripe the last I saw it. Also great to see it under the GPLv3, and not some crap like MIT.
> Unused RAM is wasted RAM

A terrible phrase constantly used in defense of bloated, wasteful programs using gobs of memory to achieve nothing.

Re:Nebula Sans on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @12:05PM (#49451474)
It's always interesting to see companies spend time, money, and make a big deal (websites even, apparently) solely for a Sans Serif font. One that, at least on my system, is blocked by uBlock Origin and gets converted into Noto Sans (which should be default, screw your fonts, respect my browser's font please!)
