Whats wrong with these companies?

Re:Odoo: Open-Source ERP on Sunday January 04, 2026 @01:39AM (#46485570)
Open core, not open source, only for the Community edition, wait till you notice that you will need enterprise license since most powerfull features/addons are enterprise only and you end up paying more money for "open source" ERP than normal ERP
Thank you, I Will fill the form and hope something happens

Among the crazy things that Kontigo did, was that they allowed Venezuelans to open an US bank account, without any check or anything, you just had to put random "passport number" on a field (no kyc or anything) and they would issue you a chase checkings account number.

heres the ig advertising for that service: https://www.instagram.com/reels/DMljYtUsrDI/

anyways, they got shut down by chase few days ago:

Ask HN: Is YC funding sanctions evasion? The case of Kontigo Inc in Venezuela

I am writing this to raise a serious question about due diligence in the current VC landscape (YCombinator, DST Global, Soma Capital) regarding a startup called Kontigo. [1]On the surface, Kontigo presents itself as a neobank for "Global Citizens" registered in Delaware (Kontigo Inc). However, a look at their operations suggests a structure designed to bypass OFAC sanctions while collaborating...

Imagine telling venezuelans living in venezuela, to go educate themselves about venezuela

Sire thing your links will be right and all my years suffering here are BS

you will be surprised, but it's all about corruption oportunities.

In venezuela right now, there's a YC startup (2023), "Kontigo" [1], who's part of it, they went all in with this "stablecoin" bullsh*t and manage to get a license to operate in US (stripe) and with Venezuelans users with absolutely NO KYC, fully connected and "licensed" by the venezuelan "National Superintendence of Cryptoassets and Related Activities" a.k.a SUNACRIP

Take note that this SUNACRIP had closed operations since 2020 when a huge corruption scandal hit the govt, they used crypto to run corruption operations and money laundering [2][3][4] and somehow SUNACRIP, an organization that is not even working or functioning, this january licensed "Kontigo" to operated in the country, the founders themselves made a bragging video on instagram about "noone expecting it", wich is hillarious, you can find the video at https://www.instagram.com/p/DFd8ouoNKuI/

Anyways, the corrupted govt, approved a YC startup to exchange instantly USDC to VEF using venezuelans banks APIs and USA banking system (plaid, stripe, etc), without any KYC, without any sanctions screening, nothing, the reason for this approval is pretty simple, they doing the money laundering process super easy for them lol, they helping venezuelan corrupts officials bypass sanctions and easy money laundering.

I'm absolutely baffled at the situation and wondering how the fuck this happened, I myself know lower/mid size venezuelan corrupt officials using Kontigo to instantly wash money into USDC, and all of this is backed by YC itself.

And inbefore any user comes here telling me that "venezuela is sanctioned" and whatever other random thing, this company absolutely doesnt help venezuelans, it only helps corruption and launder money from corruption and drugs

Re:Bitcoin has made a new all-time high price on Wednesday November 06, 2024 @09:42AM (#42063007)
noone knows, but the real question is why any govt hasnt done any significative investigation or attack on tether? the only explanation i see (from the US pov) is that they actually collaborating in deeper investigations so they let it coexist, otherwise it makes no sense how legitimated it is knowing that it's pure fake money and it's not backed up at all

bitcoin wont be real till tether dissapears

Re:Bitcoin has made a new all-time high price on Wednesday November 06, 2024 @09:39AM (#42062949)
how you guys interpretate all this price swings with barely no trade volumen increase?

i think the whole crypto narrative it's slowly dying, okay its ATH now, but yeah, we still got this huge elephant in the room called tether and well u know

Re:Suspicious data pattern in recent Venezuelan election on Thursday August 01, 2024 @12:40AM (#41126213)
cause they did not release any official statement, they only read those numbers on national TV and 8 hours later they made maduro sign the papers as a winners.

now, more than 72 hours after elections, we still dont know the results and there is not a single place to check the acts or the numbers by pooling center.

it was all fraud.

Let me present to you the official site with the results of the actual results of the presidential elections that were held on July 28, 2024. This site serves as proof of the fraud that occurred in the election.

These elections determined whether Maduro or Edmundo Gonzalez would be president of the country.

The official government results were presented by the National Electoral Council A.k.a. (CNE) on television during the night of July 28 and have not been published elsewhere.

The results announced were as follows:

Nicolas Maduro with 5,150,092 votes for a 51.20 %.

Edmundo González with 4,445,978 for a 44.20 %.

Others with a total of 462,704 for a 4,60 %.

Note that the decimals of these results add up perfectly, as if they had been calculated with excel. as explained on https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41123155

The site https://resultadosconvzla.com/ allows you to view the results of 24,576 (81.85%) of the 30,026 polling stations available and has been put together in a collective effort to avoid fraud.

The actual results, so far are:

Edmundo Gonzalez 7,173,152 votes for a 67%.

Nicolás Maduro 3,250,424 votes for a 30%.

Others 251,446 votes with a 2%

Re:Land value tax in online games and virtual worlds on Friday June 14, 2024 @12:59AM (#40677607)
cool read but this article misses pretty much the biggest factor in the whole history and is that no matter how much you think about this "problem", it will always be defeated by the players will to win or take advantage

lets remember after all, games and virtuals worlds, are that, games and virtuals worlds, so players have pretty much nothing to lose in trying to exploit whatever system you put in place

so if you are a gamemaster/game dev/etc, noone cares how much time or resources you invest in thinking how to solve the land crisis or housing crisis, you wont solve it and at the end if you put the most complex system or the most punisheable on you will most likely end up with your player base actually quitting or not interested in playing your game or following your rules.

so its actually just about to just accepting that there will be a land crisis or housing crisis and that you will just have to look the other way and let it be, cause at the end you might just end up killing your own game by going with the full try hard way.

theres actually silly solutions that have been proven to be good, like for example, adding new areas with the updates thus rendering the old areas useless and having people repeat the cycle of trying to be the new ones in those areas

or the favourite of all the game publishers, just tax with ingame credits that can only be purchased with $$$, so everyone is happy haha

btw, most of games end up failing trying to solve this land crisis or housing crisis cause while the focus so much on that, they have bigger problems that affect direct on it like currency inflation, RMT, gold farming and even more deep problems like cheating/botting

Re:Everything will be alright in Iceland on Friday January 05, 2024 @12:00PM (#38881377)
Everything will be alright in Iceland *

* As long as you are not asking for asylum and just spending money on tourism.

Imagine being a Venezuelan, running away from a authoritarian regime, going to iceland, asking asylum and getting it deny just to get deported and incarcerated as soon as you get sent back to venezuela.

That happened to over 100 venezuelans some months ago, all got deported in a plane directly to Caracas, once arrived, all were detained and called "traitors", now you tell me if everything its going to be allright for them?

Re:Chat App / UI for Google Gemini Pro on Monday December 18, 2023 @01:58PM (#38686658)
what are the differences with just talking with the chat on bard?
the funny thing about outlook is not even mentioned here, it seems that they have absolutely no spam filter? I get more spam (and the stupid obvious one, like 2004 phishing methods) into my outlook inbox than into my gmail throwaway email intentionally created to receive spam and crap signups, it just baffles me
he has infinite supply of money to pay any fine, i dont really understand the fine amount, whats the porpouse of it, u either force them to destroy the whole exchange or just try to make their complete reputation go down but this looks like the govt getting some pocket money and letting them keep doing nasty things overseas and thats it?
Re:OpenAI: Facts from a Weekend – A Timeline of Events on Monday November 20, 2023 @01:41PM (#38352379)
Well its better to read this than reading all the other threads with thousands of comments
despite all the bad things and random people using it for ego and stuff, its the best thing that can really happen to tech nowadays.

With all the AI/chatgpt news, a bunch of people got involved in what you call "spectator sport", leading to a whole new set of opportunities and growth, people who would never touch a pc or new software related tech, got involved, others invested, other simple became consumers and every single bit of it its good for the market.

Imagine you are a 15 y.o student right now browsing tiktok with no interest in chemistry whatsoever and suddenly you see a video about this superconductor and you get all hyped and next thing you know is that the student who had no interest on chemistry, now is passionate about it.

If all the LK-99 thing is a fiasco, at least we can say that it somehow helped getting the attention of people who would actually keep investigating and maybe do find the actual superconductor we need. And this can be said about every subject like this.

So yeah, I'm okay getting some random people having nonsense internet discussions.

Re:Meta preps new social app on Monday May 22, 2023 @04:09AM (#36028645)
So they are copying twitter now, I guess the circle of the internet has been completed, or maybe they after they fail this they will take a shoot on copying vbulletin/ipb forums from 2007 again?
Re:Circle has $3.3B of USDC’s $40B reserves still at SVB on Saturday March 11, 2023 @12:00AM (#35105533)
based pretty much on the fact that since they are completely free to do whatever they want, they are actually free of risks like this

i mean, circle at least shows their reserves, usdt has never done so...

it resumes to: since you wont ever see how bad their finances are, you just assume they are good.

the perfect crime

Twitter's value is not the platform, its the userbase.

Everyone here should already know that

Re:We will not pursue the potential acquisition of FTX on Wednesday November 09, 2022 @06:00PM (#33539401)
They slowly built/clean their reputation, bitcoin going up to 70k made everyone just forget the past.

But yeah, they are probally the most shady ones, but the fact they actually have no offices and no govs after them, makes it easier to hide your operations, its the same for tether that has managed to get so big with absolutely no offices, no employees or anything.

Both are best friends.
