Have a look at some of Tom Cosm’s tutorials, and Ableton.
For some strategies, contextual information is helpful.

Re:Don’t Use Markdown for Documentation (2016) on Sunday February 18, 2018 @01:02AM (#16404707)
The alternatives mention python and ruby. What drew me to markdown in the first place was the absence of dependencies.
Re:What to Make of Finnegans Wake? (2012) on Sunday February 18, 2018 @12:46AM (#16404669)
Try the annotations at finwake.com to get a feel for the hypertext-like layers and connections in the language. Or just acknowledge that it's not going to all make sense in one go and let the text wash around you as you keep reading.
Re:Ask HN: Best project management practices in 2018? on Thursday February 15, 2018 @02:54AM (#16382493)
ITIL is common enough, as are less formal strategies adopted by project delivery teams, departments and more lateral communities.

Without organisational support for agile adoption, from C-level down, agile is very unlikely to be successfully implemented because at some point the team who collectively contract to deliver a testable result in a sprint will derail, or be derailed by a conflicting schedule.

I guess it's the same phenomenon that was observed when people noticed that the waterfall software lifecycle was more of a spiral model, and started exploring Rapid Application Development techniques. There's nothing new under the sun.

Re:If SoundCloud Disappears, What Happens to Its Music Culture? on Wednesday August 02, 2017 @06:51AM (#14909501)
It's easy. Artists define a license for each track which explains whether it can be remixed.
Thanks ! I'll read through that this evening
Play lower and higher quality encodings through a decent size of sound system (2kW upwards) to discover what all those frequencies do
Re:Archiveteam are backing up SoundCloud on Monday July 17, 2017 @07:08AM (#14787365)
One of the reasons I prefer Soundcloud is that it's trivially easy for me to enable listeners to download tracks for free.

Re:Beginning Woodworking on Sunday November 20, 2016 @10:52AM (#12999415)
Paul Sellers series of videos are an engaging introduction to woodworking, focusing on why we have certain hand tools as well as the surprising amount they can accomplish.

His woodworkers bench project is a great place to start when planning an entry level tool set.

I'm surprised not to see Murcof's downtempo piano-heavy work on this excellent list
Re:Ask HN: How to make a career working remotely? on Tuesday November 01, 2016 @09:08AM (#12845336)
My remote clients were pleased when I told them I was considering being available an hour earlier every day.

Just one of the bonuses of moving to a cheaper, warmer timezone.

Paper maps don't need to be recharged.
Well worth a listen to some old Off The Hook shows from 2600.com - they go back a long way in time and culture. Off The Wall too.
Re:Looking to Prototype Without Wire? Introducing the Meta Board on Wednesday October 19, 2016 @04:11AM (#12741993)
'Without Wire' has capitalisation which makes me think Wire is a programming language, but the site's talking prototyping without wire, I think.

Presumably the AUD 20 pre-order woudl be paid up front but there's no way to see who you are - the address in the copyright tag doesn't even tie to the domain name - or what the roadmap is or how progress is going. Which makes me wonder why this isn't using one of the established starter platforms.

The whole page looks disposable.

Which is a shame, as I spent a few hours recently rerouting wiring to get a prototype out of a breadboard and feel like I should be in your target audience.

Re:Apple Stole My Music on Thursday May 05, 2016 @08:05AM (#11635326)
I'm surprised that it's not the re-encoding of the victim's compositions that grab this headline.

Could I copyright a piece of unpublished music, then use the converted copy to show a case against Apple for copyright infringement ?

Re:The Case for SoundCloud on Tuesday April 26, 2016 @03:34AM (#11570062)
It's interesting for me as a long-term Soundcloud user to hear a predominance of listeners here, when my experience of the site is that it focusses on producers and performers.

Sure, once in a while someone with a YouTube mindset uploads an album that they clearly didn't write, or an indie label learning about PR reposts their own back catalogue, but not that often. Mostly, artists upload tracks they wrote or are working on, and people repost a curated taste of what they are inspired by.

That's what I found about six years ago and my community on there have helped to keep me publishing music occasionally - not just writing bits and pieces but actually finishing music and hitting upload.

I think I'm fairly central for Soundcloud's target audience. You'll find download links on my tracks (full quality) and no Beatport, iTunes or Bandcamp links, because it's something I do for fun, not profit. I've never reached my upload limit because I'm not exactly prolific - or because the limit is generous.

The service has value to me, but I simply don't need anything that going pro offers.

Re:Gitlo: GitHub-Trello Integration on Tuesday November 17, 2015 @07:54AM (#10580716)
This application will be able to read and write all public and private repository data. This includes the following:

- Code - Issues - Pull requests - Wikis - Settings - Webhooks and services - Deploy keys

No sir, you may not have my deploy keys.

Try opening an account with a sports book company using a gaming industry email address. See how long it stays open and unthrottled.
Re:Ask HN: Is RSS still worth the time? on Friday September 11, 2015 @03:29AM (#10202415)
My RSS feed is like my bookmarks, except I actually read, listen to and watch the content that arrives by RSS.

Rawdog generates a new homepage for me a few times a day. I don't even have to put up with other people's crappy design and can enjoy information presented in my OWN crappy design.

Certainly, if you use your skills to make an actual impact.
Re:Reefer tapes of Louis Armstrong on Sunday May 31, 2015 @05:57AM (#9633688)
I find it anachronistic that I'm invited to make an appointment to listen to the tapes in New York.

Why wouldn't the museum simply publish them online ?

The comment that this page reiterates concerns the garish, collectible candy that Marvel and DC have made their stock-in-trade.

Folks who prefer their science fiction from the likes of Jack Womack, Cormack McCarthy or any of the masters of science fiction need not be concerned.

Move along please, there's nothing to see here.
