Beyond earth orbit launches actually is not that low [1]. MSR has a long history of revival and cancellation.

Re:Lost Soviet Moon Lander May Have Been Found
on Monday February 16, 2026 @02:45AM (#47032093)
The word "lost" is a little bit confusing in this context. It successfully landed and operated several days, but it's location was only approximated.
We've seen landers in recent years that crashed unintentionally in precise known locations. Does this mean that they were not lost?
Re:SpaceX lowering orbits of 4,400 Starlink satellites for safety's sake

There is huge increase of orbital launches in recent years [1] done mostly by SpaceX and China is also planning to double its numbers in the coming years. The risks will be even higher.

New record in 2025: 324 launches.

SpaceX alone launched 165 Falcon 9 rockets which is more than half of the orbital launches worldwide. Decline of Russia continues, China with significant increase.

on Thursday August 14, 2025 @03:17AM (#44897641)
Why can't it be fixed? Just remove algorithms and show only subscribed content in chronological order. That's how most of the early platforms worked and it was fine.
Re:Every satellite orbiting earth and who owns them (2023)

Stats that are based only on the number of satellites can be very misleading as they don't differentiate between a 5 ton comm sat and an 1 kg cubesat.

I'm already skeptical with all these cancer research results being practical. One would say cancer is already curable when looking on the HN search results for cancer from the past 10+ years

"“Stability AI has copied more than 12 million photographs from Getty Images’ collection, along with the associated captions and metadata, without permission from or compensation to Getty Images,” Getty wrote in its lawsuit."
The hypocrisy of Getty Image is insane here, given it's dark past.

Re:Longevity of Recordable CDs, DVDs and Blu-Rays

Not sure about the claims that blue ray's longevity may be less than cds and dvds. The technology greatly improved in the past decade (the article was written in 2010) and multiple sources saying the opposite. M-DISC brds seem to be capable of long term archiving.

It's not like NATO to deploy forces there to fight the Russians. This is a more complex military, strategic and political issue with many implications.

Also, youtube videos sometimes don't have posting date in their description, not sure why. And I hate when platforms use contextual time like '1 year ago' instead of posting date.
