Re:Datawrapper: Create charts, maps, and tables on Saturday February 05, 2022 @10:24AM (#30221948)
Hi, do you allow startups to embed this into their product to offer to their customers as a chart builder solution without requiring them to create their own account?like an oem approach?
that's great to hear about how Airtable has adapted during the pandemic. Love the cute pic of your son. And also a big fan of the automation platform. Congrats on the launch!
Re:Show HN: Use Airtable as a database in a frontend on Friday May 01, 2020 @10:50PM (#23048708)
Hey Ian, nice job.

I'm going to submit to our community resource sections on builtonair.com

Hi, can you compare your products to others in this space? Zapier, tray.io, workato, etc
It happens organically with Airtable. We do custom implementations of it with companies. Most get started by someone because its so easy to get up and going but then reach a point where they need some more expertise and bring us in.
That exists. Its currently in beta. I have had access to it for months. You should be able to ask them to turn it on for you.
I probably got downvoted because i failed to mention im not affiliated with this concept so it appears as though im self-promoting. So just to be clear i have no affiliation with it and just learned about it last week and read the book over the weekend and think this approach has a lot of merit.
Ive been investigating the grunt fund [0] concept lately and plan to use it with my current startup to bring on a partner. I think it would go along way to ease your concerns.

thank you for your honest answer. Some food for thought for your marketing department: I'm interested in your product, but because I can't easily incorporate it into a puppet script to install into my virtualbox dev environment like I can with MongoDB, I'm probably gonna pass on it for now.

Re:Work for Pie is Shutting Down on Friday August 02, 2013 @10:58PM (#6150890)
between workforpie and path.to [0] shutting down within 2 weeks of eachother, there is something to be said about new attempts to try to crack the old recruiting regime turning out to be more difficult than one might think.

[0] http://blog.path.to/post/six-lessons-that-might-have-saved-o...

Let me know if you're ever in utah and want to play a round.
I'm building a platform to enable just that for businesses. It's mostly geared towards marketing integration and automation but could really be used any way imaginable.
Re:Dear Open Source Project Leader: Quit Being A Jerk on Friday December 14, 2012 @10:45PM (#4924535)
Having used Dericks (the OP) Marionette package and interacted a few times with him, I can attest he practices what he preaches.
Looks great - except missing the one I need for my product: LinkedIn! any timeframe for linkedin?
Re:HoursForEquity matches startups and job seekers on Sunday October 07, 2012 @09:58AM (#4623326)
I see geekli.st taking this exact approach now. Another approach is what betacave.com is doing (disclaimer: I'm a co-founder)

Ultimately it comes down to privacy and respect.

Re:5 ways how a recruiter can **** me off on Friday September 28, 2012 @12:36PM (#4586401)
I really enjoyed this list. Having similar experiences is exactly what led me to do something about it and build a new approach to recruiting which we are in pre-launch mode: http://betacave.com

Here is how our platform addresses each of your concerns:

1. Phone calls are the 2nd step and not the 1st

All personal information is private. On betacave, recruiters can't get access to you unless you specifically allow it. I'm now telling recruiters that call me that if they want to connect, they'll have to go through betacave.

2. Read my CV

We will provide tools to hopefully enable recruiters (both 3rd party and companies) to see how a candidate who has expressed interest matches with what they are looking for. Although we hope to make easier, it is still up to recruiter to actually care and read about you.

3. Know what you are doing

Same as #2, we hope to make that easier for recruiter to know about you (if you want them to).

4. Don’t ask me to fool my customer

Not much we can help with that. That's just common sense.

5. Respect my requirements

Exactly! Our learning algorithm will learn about what your requirements are based on your input and some machine learning to only send you matches that fit your requirements.

I'd appreciate you check out betacave.com and let me know if you think it would help reduce the friction involved with dealing with recruiters.

Re:WTFM - Write The Freaking Manual on Friday September 28, 2012 @09:00AM (#4585254)
Any pointers on how to make it easier to wtfm? If anyone out there actually enjoys writing documentation I'd be willing to pay for some help and guidance on a rather large commercial open source project that is in need of some tlc regarding documentation
Re:Longtime tech recruiter shatters the engineering shortage myth on Wednesday September 26, 2012 @11:28PM (#4579152)
I have thought alot about this lately (having just started a company that I believe addresses this: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4576038 ).

for me there was just too much friction in the process which is what we think our model can remove/reduce.

Re:Ask HN: Is anyone doing a job board "right"? on Wednesday September 26, 2012 @12:00PM (#4576311)
Based on your question, I would say odesk is the place to go to post/find someone for simple programming tasks. I've heard of people using fiverr.com for this but I've never tried.

On a purely selfish note: I just launched betacave.com which has a unique spin on the recruiting process, but its more geared towards long term hiring. Discussion here: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4576038

Re:Ask HN: Is anyone doing a job board "right"? on Wednesday September 26, 2012 @11:56AM (#4576285)
I would say similar to previous comment that indeed.com is best at aggregating job listings. You want something better than that?
Re:Show HN: Betacave.com - Our attempt to fix recruiting on Wednesday September 26, 2012 @11:33AM (#4576137)
i will try to implement a workaround if that script doesn't load, but seems to be loading for me everytime. Let me know if still an issue after refresh or if anyone else experiences similar.
Re:Show HN: Betacave.com - Our attempt to fix recruiting on Wednesday September 26, 2012 @11:24AM (#4576085)
hmm. its working for me. sometimes it takes a second to respond which I need to improve but should go to a new page. can you use the contact us form on page and let me know your setup?

Edit: thanks for sharing debug. looks like geoplugin didn't load for you. will investigate.

Re:Show HN: Betacave.com - Our attempt to fix recruiting on Wednesday September 26, 2012 @11:15AM (#4576039)
There has been much discussion lately on HN regarding new models to improve recruiting.

We are officially throwing our hat into the ring with Betacave.com and would love your feedback.

We are still pre-launch so currently gauging interest (which has been great so far).

After showing it to a few developers last week, this is what one had to say:

Dan! You're my new man crush! This is such a great idea! I THINK IT EVEN DESERVES SOME ALL-CAPS ACTION. YEAH, IT'S THAT GOOD!

Let us know if you agree/disagree. We hope to become a valuable asset to your long term career goals and the platform of choice for companies to hire the right talent. We have also begun talking to great companies who want to be a part of this. If you work for one, get in contact with us asap to become a launch partner.

Our quick pitch: Recruiting sucks on both sides. Betacave.com is a new, private way for talented professionals to connect with amazing companies. Sign up for free at http://betacave.com to get in pre-launch either as a talented professional or an amazing company.

I posted more details on my blog: http://dannydo.es/betacave if you want to read more.

Re:Recruiter Disruption Rant on Monday September 17, 2012 @03:07PM (#4534269)
agree, except that with recruiting anyone you want to date is almost always in an existing relationship so you have to first convince them to break up before you can start dating, thus making it even more complicated.

We actually took many principles from online dating services to form betacave.com and think we have a solution that can suffice the needs of both parties (the site is up and functional but not quite ready for primetime; I'll do a formal Show HN next week, but was too relevant to this thread to not share).
