What I had in mind by Ego was "flattery", so in a positive sense. In retrospect, ego without M is an empty, impotent argument.
So true. I cant help but be extremely jealous(to a fault) of those that had both options.
The median is certainly 0.
Mediocre startup compensation combined with the bay area cost of living and the added work/life imbalance can arguably do the same thing.
Anyone know how much Google would realistically offer someone with 4 years of presumably irrelevant rails and sql experience?(As in, NOT in ('c++','java','javascript','python')

I'm predicting not much - and I bet they believe a significant part of the "compensation" will be the "privilege" or working at google.

I think M,I,and E (hopefully not C) could also be considered motivations for convincing someone to change jobs?

(In my experience, recruiters from a well known FAANG company like to lean HEAVILY on E. Jokes on them, because the right answer is M!)

Ask HN: How much would Google offer to someone the previously rejected

What kind of range would I be looking at? Now I only have essentially 4 years of Ruby experience and some DBA and ETL development. Seems like the best case scenario I'd be going back to square 1 career wise in exchange for the "privilege" of working at Google.I'm fairly certain at best they just want another body to throw through the meat grinder interview/hiring process. Also SF vs NY.

I tried hulu back in the day when even their paid service had ads. Before this I was used to netflix.

Coming from netflix, the ads on hula completely ruin the streaming experience.

What really bothers me is that youtube and instagram are full or lifting/exercise guru that presume to give people useful advice(and frequently sell things).

Except most/all of these people that claim they are natural actually take steroids. Steroids are such a force multiplier - they will completely overpower mediocre diet and training. A natural lifter could do everything perfectly and still fall far behind the results of these so called experts.

Re:Actuarial science ranked as most valuable college major on Tuesday September 11, 2018 @02:34AM (#17957583)
Annecdotal, but I've experience this personally. These rankings grossly neglect the availability of entry level jobs. And you end up studying a bunch of stuff that is borderline useless for any other career path on a practical level.

I consider trying to become an actuary one of the greatest mistakes and waste of time in my life.

When I switched to programming, it was like some kind of magical door opened and all of a sudden and the process of finding an entry level job was no longer the equivalent of banging my head against the wall, repeatedly.
