Usually, a frame is rendered on a single processor.
We have been very happy with sources - it doesn't cover EVERY service we use (yet) but taking even just one or two out of in-house ETL is a huge benefit.

Re:Bring on the Real Computer Revolution [pdf] on Monday December 07, 2015 @08:48PM (#10694259)
It's kind of ironic that this article is presented as a PDF version of a journal paper.
Re:Financial Misstatements on Friday August 21, 2015 @07:45PM (#10100917)
I would add bookings vs. revenue.

If you sign up a $120k yearly contract, you have $120k in bookings, but can only recognize $10k of revenue each month.

Re:Pixar Online Library on Monday August 03, 2015 @10:21PM (#10001282)
This list is missing my favorite pre-Pixar paper.

I would LOVE to see a Founders at Work 2.0 - so many incredible companies have been built since that book was published. The iPhone had just been released, for instance.
Re:Apple Reports Record First Quarter Results on Tuesday January 27, 2015 @11:05PM (#8958022)
Never underestimate the human ability to consume power / CPU / memory / sensors / etc. So far we've never had "enough" of any of these.
Re:Why we prefer founding CEOs (2010) on Thursday January 15, 2015 @01:06AM (#8891147)
the worst thing about "the hard thing about hard things" is that Ben seems to have slowed his blogging output.
Re: on Thursday September 11, 2014 @05:21PM (#8305223)
I hate this stuff.

Steve was pretty explicit to Tim Cook and others that they should never ask "what would Steve do". He knew what that kind of attitude did to Disney after Walt died. It destroyed their creativity for years.

Re:Exploding Offers Suck on Monday September 08, 2014 @02:00PM (#8286229)
This is true for ALL exploding offers. Not just accelerators or investment term sheets, but for employment as well.
It's amazing to me that medical journals print results based on 20 control and 20 test subjects.
Re:Uber's playbook for sabotaging Lyft on Tuesday August 26, 2014 @04:23PM (#8229317)
This article only describes a concerted effort to recruit drivers by hailing rides. Lyft still gets paid.

I believe that the hail / cancel tactic is unethical, but this article only describes direct recruitment.

Re:Uber's playbook for sabotaging Lyft on Tuesday August 26, 2014 @04:12PM (#8229253)
So which is it - is poaching another company's drivers bad, or is making secret anti-poaching agreements bad?
I think you should think about it as a multiple of what you would expect per-employee were the company to hire everyone off the street. So if you would get 10k options / employee off the street, what multiple of that is it worth to get the full team.
Re:TSA: don't bring uncharged devices from oversea on Sunday July 06, 2014 @09:04PM (#7996470)
This is a huge pain in the ass. When I travel, I often don't use my phone for many days at a time, and usually return without a charged device.
No.

Signing up for a new twitter account shows why _you think_ the company is struggling to grow.

Without any insight into their acquisition, retention, or other core data that drove these decisions you have no idea what you are talking about.

Don't get me wrong - I think these are all good hypotheses. But without data they are just hypotheses.

Re:Twitter’s Chief Operating Officer Steps Down on Thursday June 12, 2014 @05:12PM (#7885970)
Nitpick - Ali wasn't at Pixar @ the time of the IPO, though I'm sure he was instrumental during the Disney acquisition.
Re:Ripe for Disruption on Thursday May 22, 2014 @10:33AM (#7784031)
There's a pretty good case that "mobile" is the 10x force and major change that opens up basically every early web property to disruption.

Payments / bitcoin innovation is a second likely 10x factor (in particular for ebay).

Re:Welcome Kat, Yuri, Patrick, and Elizabeth on Tuesday April 15, 2014 @11:58AM (#7592516)
Good point - I hadn't thought about how early stage startups are your customers.
Re:Welcome Kat, Yuri, Patrick, and Elizabeth on Monday April 14, 2014 @06:37PM (#7589319)
I don't understand how the CEO of a high-growth startup does anything at this level of commitment outside their existing jobs.

I barely understand how CEOs do even the one job.

Re:Whatever’s Best For The People, That’s What We Do on Friday March 28, 2014 @08:05AM (#7486619)
You're right. We should disregard a first hand account and instead believe second or third hand rumors.
Re:I Still Don't Want To Be Part of Your Fucking Ecosystem on Wednesday February 26, 2014 @09:17AM (#7304998)
It's not clear that Amazon has 100% control over how they distribute video. Rights holders are pretty controlling about DRM, distribution, and what devices can use their content.

I don't know anything about the specific deals here, but I wouldn't be surprised if an open Amazon Instant Video was an Amazon Instant Video without very much content you'd care about.

Re:Pinterest Acquires Hackermeter (YC S13) on Friday October 11, 2013 @10:41PM (#6537033)
It's called AngelList.
Re:iOS 7 “activation required” error on iPhone and iPad on Saturday October 05, 2013 @11:57PM (#6503049)
For everyone saying "you should have read the release notes" - yes I agree. However, there are two things that made this very opaque and should have been better.

1) all sources indicate everywhere that the software is "up to date". I realize that as a developer I should be keeping better tabs on things but I usually trust things not to just lie to me. It's pretty opaque.

2) The error you get when the beta expires makes no mention of the fact that the beta expired. Without judicious twitter searches and a quick look on hacker news, I didn't know what the source of the error was and assumed something was wrong w/ apple's activation or that someone had compromised my account in some way.
