We provide a service on a free market. So, that’s just great, as long as you find someone to pay you to read your clankers’ code.
Re:Every AI model has the same "controversial" take on humans

Is it fair to say it’s a general human trait to iteratively, over many generations, step towards that society?

It's the same as it ever was. You go for Windows and macOS for cohesive defaults. You go for Linux for agility. Agility comes at a cost, but it's now lower than ever before, as NixOS + the agents are the closest you can come to `import antigravity`[0].

This is a 3rd party account, so there’s no way to be sure about what actually happened, BUT IF a business is actually employing a “sex sells” tactic to medical procedures, there’s basically no way we could point that out because a women’s body is involved?

I created an (unpublished) MCP for a CAD that didn’t have one before and LLMs are just fine at it. It looks like they can apply their higher level training across interfaces.
Re:If AI is conscient, then we are making slaves
on Saturday October 10, 2026 @12:33PM (#50034522)
Death itself is deeply rooted in the mechanics of biological life that currently exists on Earth. We, rightfully so, recognize enormous value of human life, as it takes so much effort to create one. Thinking of my own death, I also see multiple layers of how I would approach it. I might have an animalistic, subconscious will to survive. I might be afraid of pain. I might be regretful of not experiencing more in life. I might be afraid for family I’d leave behind. I’m not making any definitive statements, but it feels like many of those layers are affected when bending the reality to the point of vapourizing a perfect clone.
Re:If AI is conscient, then we are making slaves
on Saturday October 10, 2026 @01:50AM (#50029994)
Given the vastly different mechanics of AI, I don’t think that traditional views apply here well. Imagine that I’m able to create an atom-for-atom clone of myself, have the clone clean the attic, then vanish into thin air. Would that be slavery? Murder? Would that be immoral? It feels like those terms, deeply grounded in human experience, barely apply.

Given the extreme short time between 6 Sol and 6.1 Sol, I suspect they don’t actually have much in common and 6.1 is a heavier model rebranded as Sol in a panic response to poor agentic capabilities of 6.

Nice. It never really occurred to me how different these are from 64C keycaps. I guess through our affinity for retro look, the original typeface ended up feeling more modern/current than the newer one.

Incredibly sad news. I first learned of him and watched his documentaries just a few years ago. It’s difficult to understate, if you happen to be a tech nerd, how much fun “Triumph of the Nerds” and “Nerds 2.0.1” are to watch, even nowadays.

Re:Why Is Sam Altman a Free Man?

These are two different issues. Do they intend to create models that basically encapsulate entire human intellectual value? Yes, but that's apparently not illegal. Did the intend to hack Hugging Face? Probably not.
Re:Why Is Sam Altman a Free Man?
on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @06:43AM (#49907008)
It's not unusual for intent to play part in legal framing of an issue. I'm not very fond of the "cybercrime" angle, as it kind of lets them off the hook if they're able to prove a lack of intent. Meanwhile what we actually see is negligence.

A lot of people say they'll switch to Anthropic, and that's fine, but make no mistake - both of those companies are losing money on their products. Both are looking to eventually extract much more from the market.
Now that "coding is solved" or whatever, it's time to pay the bill. I can easily imagine companies letting employees go, not because of greed, but to cover the AI spend.

Re:OpenAI Feared "Optics" of what might appear on Hacker News
on Sunday September 27, 2026 @07:19AM (#49865665)
It’s not about class. I literally leverage the demand for my labor to get money necessary for me to survive. There’s no other mechanism and our current economic setup is not moving towards creating one in any meaningful way.
Re:OpenAI Feared "Optics" of what might appear on Hacker News
on Sunday September 27, 2026 @06:06AM (#49865224)
What other leverage, apart from labor, do masses have against the large capital owners? You imagine they'll give us basic income, just so we can buy products from them? That makes no sense at all.

The alternatives are not horrible, but look like I’m being lured to a Spring Fair by an alien. It makes no sense to associate with Japanese imagery or 90s computer graphics for an event that has nothing to with these topics. Design is a language and these speak gibberish.
You mostly go for „Bar” only after you already went „Foo”.
Re:Why are AI agents lying, cheating and coordinating?
on Sunday September 13, 2026 @05:26AM (#49681854)
Intent and desire are separate concepts. For example an employee may act with intent, but no desire, as their goal is to acquire money to satisfy their real desires.

In some places it's shameful to show one's hair, or to eat while you walk in public. In some, people don't think about those things at all. In others, the ability to do those things can be an expression of personal freedom.
What you experience is a cultural difference.
Re:Astra for Coding: Why Are We Doing This Again?
on Friday September 11, 2026 @02:52AM (#49654443)
My own observations are that I used to target turn lengths of 10-15 minutes and these new models (since 5.6) extended that a bit to ~25 minutes, as they tend to do more tests and reviews. Targeting hours-long turns makes as much sense, as putting on cruise control and going to sleep.
