Depends on what you mean by “end of slavery”

This means the atomic clock is behind the solar clock by 37 seconds? I also don’t understand the reference to 2017.

How does this work with registration? Like what would they put for make and model for the car? I imagine there has to be a way to add custom cars to it.
That's nice, but there's more to it:

> However, the S&P Dow Jones Indices did “carve out one concession” by changing the investable weight factor rules for “lower-profile benchmarks” such as the S&P Total Market Index and Dow Jones US Total Stock Market Index, according to Quartz. That could allow an IPO faster entry into those indexes.

I think these total market indexes are used as benchmarks for US total market ETF's and funds?

Re:MIT: 20% drop in incoming graduate students on Thursday May 14, 2026 @01:25PM (#48138390)
The trend is somewhat new if we look long term. The gap between PhD’s and number of openings in academia has gotten a lot worse.

I mean I don’t anyone thought this was in the US since the UI is not in English. Maybe it’s more of, this neat, wish we had it here?

So if we’re being technical I think they did achieve escape velocity? But the moon’s gravity and some timed burns will slingshot them back.
The article says Walmart is not abandoning ChatGPT but is going to use their own app in Chat’s ecosystem
Nice work. One piece of feedback - the two shades of green are hard to distinguish and mean very different things
Re:Man accidentally gains control of 7k robot vacuums on Sunday February 22, 2026 @10:45AM (#47111913)
“Accidentally” is not accurate. He used AI to inspect the source and found credentials that work in all devices. He also never gained control of anyone else’s devices. He never used the exploit.
Re:macOS Tahoe 26.3 is Broken on Wednesday February 18, 2026 @08:32AM (#47060742)
This is the third point release for the 26 series. Aren’t these primarily bugfixes? Or does Apple use a different versioning system?

You have to deliberately turn off autocorrection on most phones

Most definitely marketing. It’s got the company name in it. I’m surprised other watch makers didn’t come up with their own time standards as gimmicks.
Of course there’s always been that pressure but now with AI tooling the sheer volume of code that can be generated is massive.
Yes but now there is so much more volume of code created in the same amount of time.
To me the biggest benefit has been getting AI to write scripts that automate some things for me that are tedious but not needed to be deployed. Those scripts don’t have to be production-grade and just have to work.
I think the points about code ownership and responsibility are spot on. Management wants you to increase velocity with these agents so inevitably there is pressure to ship crappy code. You then will be responsible for the code, not the AI. It’s the idea of being a reverse centaur.

I also like the comments on how developers should be frequently reading the entire code and not just the diffs. But again there is probably pressure to speed up and then that practice gets sacrificed.

AFAIK DMCA is such a strong law that you just have to circumvent any kind of access mechanism to violate it. I’m not a lawyer.

“No person shall circumvent a technological measure that effectively controls access to a work protected under this title.”

“to "circumvent a technological measure" means to descramble a scrambled work, to decrypt an encrypted work, or otherwise to avoid, bypass, remove, deactivate, or impair a technological measure, without the authority of the copyright owner;”

I’m not sure how modding works in the case but usually this is why companies can come after folks.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-circumvention

DMCA wasn’t law during the lawsuits with CodeGenie and Nintendo.

That might be why the first customers are utilities themselves.
Re:Start your meetings at 5 minutes past on Friday January 09, 2026 @08:28PM (#46561749)
We do this at my work and guess what - meetings tend to run 5 minutes late because everyone knows the next meeting doesn’t start until 5 past.
Re:How Will the Miracle Happen Today? on Friday January 09, 2026 @12:16PM (#46556196)
Seems like a good way to rationalize receiving and not giving anything.
Or just delete the app and log in once a year or whenever you’re job seeking?

I will say I agree that the platform is mostly spam and has definitely gotten worse sense 2021 when the article was written. But you can just not log in everyday and still have a profile. Also no reason to put your birthday on a social network IMO and you can reject requests for connections if you don’t know someone.

Ok I have been watching this and came back to it. The predicted date keeps getting moved up so much so it is now predicted for Dec 17, 2025! olol
Re:McDonald's removes AI-generated ad after backlash on Thursday December 11, 2025 @10:10AM (#46232340)
If AI is at the point then the consumer wouldn’t know or care if it was AI generated.
