Re:Ask HN: How to find time to learn after full-time job? on Monday February 05, 2024 @03:00PM (#39266285)
My process

1 utilize commute time. If you drive: podcasts about things you want to get better at. If you are on a commuter rail (where it’s normal to laptop) mooc or side projects.

2 temptation bundle: you get to do a fun thing if you do the learning etc thing first

3 micro learning: make it easy to pick up your phone and read a few pages vs wherever else you spend your time. Load the book into your reader, download the class for offline etc

I’ve learned an unbelievable amount trying to systematically invest on my own.

All of what I have learned is levered in my career and I’ve utilized that knowledge during all interviews.

And in most places exploratory code becomes production code because that’s life.
Start on sleep training as soon as you can. Get on a feeding routine as soon as you can.

Get in a routine with your partner as soon as you can.

You have a solid 3 months of your child being able to sleep on you in a baby wrap while you work if you are wfh. It is a beautiful thing.

It will all be okay. The baby is likely fine. Poop comes in a lot of weird colors.

Unless you want competition and people to realize people would pay for such a thing

Same.

Even just a maintained “start to finish” of what someone thinks is current best practice for project development would be a fantastic resource.

Hosting a local pypi server and intall via pip? Using cloud artifacts and also isntall via pip? Local conda index?None of the above and something else superior?

Re:Ask HN: WFH – will I be outsourced? on Sunday May 08, 2022 @03:41PM (#31307462)
This may be obtuse but in a company that is not fully wfh haven’t you already somewhat been outsourced?

How is the case on this? I have system76 which use a clevo chassis and they're super low quality.

I'm thinking about returning the system76 I literally just bought to switch to framework.

I recently wimped out of buying a thinkpad due to uncertainty regarding getting Ubuntu running correctly and the time it would take me to do it. Do you have a guide you’ve used or instructions you have stashed somewhere?
