I know blockchain isn't exactly popular around here. Nonetheless, I've built a DAO where voting rights are tradable assets.

Show HN: Netcards – PWA for exchanging contacts at events via QR codes

https://netcards.app

I don't use business cards, preferring to let people scan a QR code from my phone. There are, however, 2 issues:- Other people tend to give me business cards and they end up in an undifferentiated pile - When people scan my QR code, the info goes into their contact, never to be seen again. To address this, I created netcards. It's a dead simple PWA that I vibe coded with Claude. The workflow...

Market based governance, aimed primarily at DAO's and network states. https://marketdao.dev

It's a governance concept based on the idea that votes should be tradeable. The concept is quite simple, but it leads to some truly hairy game theory problems. Code here: https://github.com/evronm/marketDAO

Why do you think you don't get it?

Reader mode still works, though.
I'm no fan of e.g. Jeff Bezos. But here are a few things he doesn't do with his money:

- Kill People - Torture people - Lock people up

So I'd much rather have him keep his money than have to hand it over to people who will use it for these purposes. Yeah, I know, I know, they build roads and it's absolutely impossible to build roads without extorting the entire population.

It's short for "child molester," and happens to sound a lot like "homo." Very common term in prison.

Amen! I would happily contribute both time and funds to such an effort.

Am I the only one having DNS issues with this site? For some reason, no matter which DNS server I query, it resolves to my router, yet it seems most everyone reaches it without issue.

Really short answer: They want back doors to all this stuff, including your cc info. As long as only the "good guys have" this ability, what could go wrong?

Made me cough out my hit. Well worth it. Thanks for that.
Wow! The last 4 would have been my entire list. I'm unfamiliar with the first four, but given the end of your list, I have to imagine we have really similar opinions about documentation. I'll definitely keep that git book in mind should I ever want to learn more about git.
Re:Ask HN: How do you add novelty to your days? on Thursday February 09, 2023 @02:04PM (#34729375)
I took a class with Professor Carse in NYU circa 1990. It was definitely among my favorite classes in my entire college experience even though he insisted on holding it early in the morning and I was invariably hung over and tired.

It's really nice to see quotes from this book come up from time to time. Seems it's finally finding its audience decades after publication, which is gratifying. Great book; great thinker and lecturer.

Amusing(ish) anecdote: After college I worked as a live audio engineer and once did sound for his sons' band, name "Urban Blight." Sort of a funky, 90's NYC band. Nothing spectacular, but pretty good stuff.

Thank you. This is why I come to the comments first.
Slightly OT, but MAC only? Really?! I think a big chunk of your target audience can't afford an iPhone.

This is my all time favorite HN post. I actually tweeted it. Thanks to everyone who answered.

Well, it only gave me one song: "Internal Server Error". I searched for it on Spotify, but can't find it.

Snark aside, great concept; looking forward to trying it when it comes back up.

Niven.

YES! His premises are wrong, but his conclusions are spot on. I really hope regulators learn to think like that.

Yeah, it really looks like that in the developed world. In the developing world, however, it solves some very real problems (think remittances), maybe not 100% effectively, but much better than what it's competing with.

For those who don't know, and a very pithy quote.

I think you missed the point of philosophy. It's pretty much all about pondering questions you can't answer. Once you manage to answer them, you're not doing philosophy any more but have moved into the realm of science.

Not OT at all. ESR's writing is really about his particular world view, which is surprisingly coherent, so it makes sense to inquire about the author's whereabouts.

With that out of the way, I was pleasantly surprised to see him show up on LW[1] a while back.

Yeah. My immediate gen-x thought: "you keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means."
