Or just put them above the road then? :P

You know, that makes sense. I was missing that context.

If you ever do, please give container orchestration a look. It makes it honestly easy.

Re:How I use the good parts of AWS on Sunday July 28, 2019 @01:28AM (#20546008)
My company runs AWS cloud all 20 of the non government regions as well, google cloud, and our own data centers around the world. Yeah certain regions (hello eu-north-1) are problemmatic, but we have work arounds for that. Terraform has been fine.
Re:How I use the good parts of AWS on Sunday July 28, 2019 @01:18AM (#20545981)
I have to use both. I find google easier to do simple things.. but I find it lacks some of the flexibility AWS has for less simple things.

Well, that and Google's managed k8s solution was down for multiple days awhile back when I was doing a comparison. Another reason I use EKS atm.... despite I think GKE is a bit better.

Re:How I use the good parts of AWS on Sunday July 28, 2019 @01:13AM (#20545967)
Not even in the same universe. Containers using some managed k8s (EKS, or GKE) cluster with helm is ridiculously easier to manage a dynamic sets of applications running than bare amis. I have a k8s cluster that runs across >1k ec2 instances where I have thousand of containers running various jobs. I can apply/delete any massive deployment across that literally in seconds. with a single command.

The layers make it a lot lot easier here.

Yeah. Terraform is the mature standard for this. To me it feels like OP isn't that familiar with large scale infra work.
That is not my experience. I've been shipping code for >20 years across a ton of platforms. MS tech has always been a snowflake headache.
I do machine learning--- but hate the overhead headache with DoD work. However if they paid me enough, of course :P
I see people getting excited about something new "past REST"... which by that what they mean is RPC.

Yup. I make 3x what glassdoor lists for my company. So do at least 2 other senior engineer friends of mine at the company.
Re:The Cost of Developers on Thursday June 07, 2018 @05:55PM (#17260624)
Oh, they understood it, top tier mobile devs, they just thought it was trash. Drastically preferred to do native. I went to bat for them, and we shipped a beautiful app on time.
Re:AI at Google: our principles on Thursday June 07, 2018 @04:37PM (#17260032)
And now someone else will easily pick up the contract, and Google loses any ability at all to influence it. Perhaps they could have reduced civilian casualities more so than whoever picks it up.
Re:Things I Regret About Node.js [video] on Thursday June 07, 2018 @05:59AM (#17254564)
Or people just enjoy building something that scratches an itch for them?
Re:The Cost of Developers on Tuesday June 05, 2018 @08:39AM (#17237063)
I have literally had a mobile team threaten to quit if we adopted Xamarin after they built a small app in it lol.
Re:Microsoft Is Said to Have Agreed to Acquire GitHub on Monday June 04, 2018 @05:37AM (#17226076)
it's still bad.
Re:Facebook moving away from React Native? on Sunday June 03, 2018 @02:45AM (#17218272)
My mobile teams threatened to quit if we adopted Xarmin after building an app in it.
Re:Fake it till you make it: the wolves of Instagram on Friday May 04, 2018 @02:05PM (#16996752)
Most of the countries I've lived or worked in (around Asia, Europe, South America ) are largely the same. I think it is a human quality.
Re:Why I Don't Sign Non-Competes on Wednesday March 21, 2018 @11:31AM (#16638911)
Nope, not me. When I leave a company I purge all code, all documents, all access to any services etc.
Re:Why I Don't Sign Non-Competes on Wednesday March 21, 2018 @10:38AM (#16638332)
My division got laid off... my company is paying my full salary + bonus through my enforced non-compete duration of a year, which I think is the right thing to do if they're going to enforce such. (and knowing what I know, and what I worked on, it's in their best interests)

Horses also have some interesting auto-pilot features, not to mention they are green. Their fuel source generates oxygen during development and some of their byproducts can be used to enhance your garden!
Re:Segway robot on Thursday January 07, 2016 @05:27PM (#10861304)
How do you like your double? My company is wanting to buy a number of remote robots--- they were one of the ones I was considering.
I have never slept well my entire life. 4-6 hours a night is my average. It doesn't seem to impact me... I have always felt great, and I have always coded on complicated things without issue.

There has to be a ratio difference for people.

Re:That's a fun trick Google on Monday November 25, 2013 @01:45PM (#6795994)
You do realize that was for special pastes, right? Cells + functions, drawings etc
I really enjoy my $399 32gb Nexus 5. I couldn't be happier.

But yeah, $600-900... never again.

581,000,000 for me.
Re:Google Glass has new rival in GlassUp smart specs on Friday July 19, 2013 @03:09PM (#6072238)
I've had Glass for over three months now. I agree-- I love that Glass's display is out of the way. That being said, if GlassUp gave me on to try out I would happily. I'm excited about the future of wearable computing.
Re:Diamonds Are Bullshit on Thursday March 21, 2013 @11:05AM (#5415502)
XKCD is always relevant.

She and I love traveling and travel a lot-- I wanted her ring to represent every place mankind has gone/will go to in our lifetime.... I bet there are few objects in the world that have been combined with pieces from so many distant origins.

Re:Diamonds Are Bullshit on Thursday March 21, 2013 @09:26AM (#5414826)
My girlfriend said the same thing. I did however get her a diamond (she doesn't know about it yet)... but it cost me 1/20th the price as I have a friend in that industry. I would not have paid retail for a diamond as I know how much of a rip off it is.

The rest of the ring I'm including fragments from a martian meteorite, a lunar meteorite, and a deep space iron meteorite...... and then other gems from every continent. :)

That is AWESOME that you made your ring. I'm having this one made... as I just... seriously lack the artistic skill to create what I want. :)

Re:Google I/O 2013 Registration Sells Out In 49 Minutes on Wednesday March 13, 2013 @02:51PM (#5370318)
Networking is the major reason I go.

Test devices are nice, but I can have my company buy me pretty much any test device I need.

Sessions are good too (but are also online)
