Ask HN: Is HN Hacked?
I had HN open and the chrome tab showed the audio sign, and some voice was running as if someone is talking... is HN Hacked?
The spasm would take 10-30 seconds to fade, but it left behind a discomfort in my back, and the discomfort wouldn't go. especially when I approached work. if I was gaming or having fun, the pain would go.
it was chronic, stayed with me for 3-4 years, until I couldn't sit for longer than 5 minutes without my back killing me.
I tried posture exercises, sitting straight for long periods of time with a good posture, shoulders back and down, 90 degree elbows, 90 degree knees, monitor right infront of my eyes instead of looking down on a laptop.
But the pain only got worse, and I got depressed, then had to quit coding for 1.5 years.
until someone here I think mentioned a book called "Heal your back", I thought it was BS but read it anyway, and I found a cure to my back there. Turns out its in a totally another place.
I was extremely stressed, and I was not taking care of my psychology, and my perfectionism was contributing lots to the stress and therefore more pain.
It's called TMS "tension myositis syndrome", basically when stress becomes real pain that you feel in your body. and now I'm seeing more and more therapists for it, search Pain Reprocessing Therapy on youtube
I hope this helps someone :)

What are some remote companies that don't use location as an excuse to pay less using the "Cost of living" thingie?
So can I conclude from what you said, that I should have my contributions profile ready for when an opportunity is open at a company I'm contributing to, I have a higher chance to get the opportunity compared to non-contributors?
I would like to know for sure if it is good investment to contribute to the companies that I like :)
That's exactly why I'm asking this question,
> It might be better to spend that free time to build a portfolio of independent projects to showcase to potential employers.
I already have a couple(wordhunt.xyz, getquoter.app), but they do not seem enough to land me a job somehow, and I don't want to apply to 100+ companies to get someone to hire me.
I would like to choose a company that I like and believe are doing a good thing, and then apply and get accepted instead of randomly applying to any company with good pay.
I would like to hear from someone with experience just to rest my mind and go ALL IN contributing :D
As the title says, Does contributing to open-source companies such as:- Gitlab- Ghost- Discourse- Edx- Google(Angular, Flutter, Tenserflow)- Facebook(React, React Native, Jest)Increases (Dramatically) Chances of getting a job at said companies? to a point where said companies reach out to the contributor?
and after all that writing you should start marketing yourself. which has the same hustle as selling yourself to a company to recruit you, more or less.
I think I'll do this and ask some recruiter friends of mine about how it looks :)
thanks, maybe I reply here and ask you if it looks good
Is remote contracting a thing?
And if my resume is all contracting work, wouldn't it get harder to get a job as an employee later?
My job experience is with 2 startups that failed 4-6 months in, and once got fired after being burnt out.So on my resume, I look like a job-hopper, and I only have these 3 jobs in my cv, what can I do to let recruiters know that I'm not a quitter? Here's how it looks:ListingMirror, United States — Full-Stack Developer July 2017 - October 2017Mokusio, Dubai — Full-Stack Developer January 2016 -...
I was thinking about making an app that tells you what's your rank against other contributors in Github repo's that you've contributed to.I came to this repository that gets what repos a user has contributed to, and to my surprise it can take hours to get all repos a user has contributed to!Why don't github provide this very basic functionality in their API?
