Show HN: A minimal yet fast and feature rich JavaScript/TypeScript scratchpad

Hi HN community,I wanted to share the story of how I built https://jsPad.dev and how it’s been evolving. It all started when I realized I needed a simple, fast, no-fuss scratchpad to test ideas quickly. I didn’t want the distractions or bloat that come with heavy IDEs or complex tools. So, I built jsPad as a hobby project to fill that gap.Within just a month, it’s gained 212 registered users,...

Hey HN folks,

I’ve been working on https://jspad.dev (previously scriptpad.dev), a minimal, offline-friendly HTML/CSS/JS playground — now with TypeScript, SCSS, and instant framework templates (React, Vue 3, Svelte, Tailwind, etc).

What’s new:

TypeScript & SCSS support – typed JS and better styling directly in the browser, with zero setup hassle.

Framework Quickstart – One-click templates for React, Vue , Svelte, Tailwind and more.

Prettier formatting - JSPad now supports prettier formatting for

---

What hasn’t changed:

Instant live preview – Edit code and see results immediately.

Offline-friendly – Works without internet. Installable as a PWA.

No login required – Just open the site and start coding.

Shareable links – Save and share scripts via URL.

Power-user ready – Customizable editor, hotkeys, ZIP downloads, and more.

Great for quick prototyping, micro-apps, demos, or teaching. Built to be fast, focused, and distraction-free.

Try a TS/SCSS snippet here: https://jspad.dev/?c=2&o=1&id=5GAKXQ2HeULDhZPoBV6i

Feedback welcome!

These are some good points. I’ll put some more thought along these lines. Thanks.
Thanks. I’ll give it a go!

Ask HN: Built a dev tool, but struggling with traction – advice?

Hey HN,A few weeks ago I launched https://jspad.dev. There’s no upsell or paywall. The plan is to keep the current set of features (and few more) free forever and introduce paid tiers for niche features like collaborative sessions, creating/managing interview sessions etc. TBH I don't even want to think too much about paid tier at the moment, since the traction has been so low.Since launch,...

This is simple and dope! well done.
I see the same problem with HN tbh. So much so that I built newz.dev as alternative HN reader, meant to be minimal and easy to eyes.

Thanks for the suggestion. That would be on my list.

A beautifully minimal HN client

Hey folks, I built a PWA to consume HN feed. It aims at being simple, minimal and readable. Web and mobile UX is very differently tailored considering respective screen sizes. Install the PWA on mobile for optimal experience.Happy to hear any feedback. It's hosted on https://newz.dev

Ask HN: Tell me a problem you face as a Dev, that you'd pay to see solved

Hey everyone, I am looking to solve some genuine problems as part of my next project.I have been working as a software engineer for a decade now and recently took a break from the full time job. I am trying to navigate the space of solo development without drowning in debt. For context I’ve recently worked on an online code editor - scriptpad. Have previously worked on developer productivity...

Yes. You should be be to install it as PWA on any device. If it’s a desktop device that you are using, you can install it using the install icon in the far right part of the URL search bar. For mobile, “add to Home Screen“ option should do the same on iOS. Android should have a similar option too.

I built a web-based HTML/CSS/JS editor focused on speed, simplicity, and offline access. No bloat — just open and start coding. What makes it different: Live Preview – Edit HTML, CSS, and JS side-by-side with instant feedback.Offline support – Works without internet. You can even install it as a PWA and use it like a native app.No Login Required – Just visit, code, and preview. Login only if you...

I am not sure about all the features codepen has. But here are some features you can try in scriptpad:

- Installable as app (PWA) on all devices. Works offline.

- You can download your snippets as zip.

- Editor supports emmet, for fluent devEx.

- Configurable editor, you can find all configs by clicking the gear icon on top right (or using CMD/Ctrl + K).
